Despite the corny name and the fact that its based on a minority of furs, this is actually looking up to be a really good doc on us. From what I understand it isn't done yet, but I look forward to its release. |

We've opened up the doors on the general public's curiosity on just what we are.
I'm happy to see news articles that give a general idea or elabourate on what is witnessed, rather than expressing any emotional dialogue. It allows people to judge for themselves after the facts are given.
But I do have a question. If asked on who or what we are, should we be encouraged to respond (truthfully, of course), or should we refuse? I guess I have a fear that whatever I would say describing the furry fandom would be used against us (even though I would have no intention of saying anything negative, it is possible that something could be misinterpreted.)

The Sonic brings up a good point. Do we really wanna bring anymore attention to us? Why can't we just go on with our daily lives. Revealing us to "the majority" isn't such a great idea. Now, nothing bad or good can happen. It's like if you stabbed a sharp stick in the ground... nothings gonna happen... hahaha. I did like that there was a war veteran in there. That helped me a little. What I think though is that we should keep our lives to ourselves. I don't feel like having a bunch of "emoo" kids thinking becoming a furry will be what's "in".

I'm personally afraid of that last line. I don't want us to be come so popular that people start saying their furry just because its 'cool'.

Tsk tsk, poor Giza. The ever-confuzzled leopard. You're not cool until other people tell you you're cool.
My mom says I'm cool.

I seriously became a furry, obviously bacause it interested me, but also that no one I knew would have any Idea what it is. I really don't want the whole world to be furries.

The world doesn't have to be all furries, the world can live in peace with the furry fandom amidst it. We can still have mainstream culture.

If the world were all furries, then furry'd be mainstream culture.
Which would probably be really cute, but also I think there'd be a need for an honest-to-god wahhhhhmbulance service.

Ugh, ANOTHER one? Mine looked better when I was a sophomore in college and mine *sucked* and I know it.
Seriously, can this be more of an amateur production?

I dunno. You already pointed out that it was about a minority of furs - yet it's titled "American Furry," which implies that it encompasses a lot of "us." That by itself would make me wary of it.
Not to mention let's think of a few movies with "American" in the title; have any of them featured *positive* characters/stories?
American Psycho
American Pie /etc.
American Beauty
American Werewolf movies...
No offense to the furs in that documentary, or any here who share their feelings, but I'd rather the fandom as a whole not be represented by that "level."

Absolute paranoia.
Are you really implying that by putting American in front of the name it's suddenly a dark and evil thing?
Well then, fuck. I better stay away from American Cheese!
The title is fairly unassuming and funny. I imagine that 'American' was placed so the pun on 'Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness' - you know, that thing from the AMERICAN constitution - would have more impact.
This sort of paranoia is the reason we get picked on so much.

It was a little joke... The American ______ part anyway. Hence the conveniently inserted ":P".
I will try to keep attempts at humor to a minimum, since I obviously fail at it. Forgive me. :|
P.S. I hate American Cheese! Swiss, Provologne, and even Jack are far superior! Wait, I like Cheddar too, please don't call me a white supremist.

Sorry. The
face looks a lot like uhm, a depressed face. That, and I'd just gotten off reading that Gushoshokihokihoko fellow's blog which is full of fear of those that don't like fuzzies and was fairly annoyed at the concept.
Apologies all around.

*Charline de Lyon considers evil things with 'America' in the beginning* An American Tail...
The paranoia is RIGHT! I mean, that made us cats looks evil just because we eat little mice! *hmphs* Australia didn't exactly think mice were cute when they were eating all the grain!
And I hate American cheese! Also bad!
And according to CNN, everyone on Earth hates America!
So, my purely scientific analysis proves that this study is evil because it has America in it. Yes yes. :3 But I like evil, so it ends up being good! >:3

Look at the date on that page. This is not "another" documentary. This is the same documentary that Marianne was working on last year.

I said 'another' in reference to all the documentaries out there, and I wasn't sure if anyone had posted a link to this or not.

GUSHOUSEKAI: But, I was so looking forward to-- No, Gushousekai! No tears! No pouting! You must find a way to get around this tragedy. You are a very imaginative person, aren't you? Think about that. If Bill Medica can't write a furry musical that Postmodern America will see...
who will?

Great...That's all we need. People running around saying their furry and then dictating groups on what's furry and what's not.it will be madness in ten years. but on a lighter note, no negative press will come out.

Not to be all correcty, but I wouldn't hold your breath. It could be a year or two yet.
I used to work in post-production before my current employment (I was a video editor) and post-production, especially of a documentary, is an extensive and long-running process that can take forever. It's moreso involved when doing a documentary because there's no script. When you start a scripted film, you know what the shots are going to be and it's more a matter of cutting them together with a good rhythm. When you do a documentary, you need to sit down, analyse and log all your footage and then try and build a story out of what you have.
All we saw from it was raw footage, which means it could be six months to a year (or more) before we see the film.
Not trying to discourage, I just wouldn't get all worked up thinking it's coming any day now. It's prolly gonna be a while.

If Uwe Boll was in on that, the final product would be furries beating up Lowtax.

I note that he refused to fight a movie critic who actually had fighting skills.
