This is not just a single airline, all the major airlines have been performing audits because some of them decided it would be "okay" to miss inspection checks.

Even though the con is a bit aways, you never know when they'll bump a person who pays coach to allow someone of first class to fly in your place. Dance

Or even if you are first class, best check anyway to give the airlines a good ear full of pain in case they start to cancel flights during the time of the con.

Below a quote from the article
A second wave of audits began on March 30, and will continue through June 30. Laura J. Brown, a spokeswoman for the agency, said it could not rule out further groundings. “We don’t know,” she said. “We find what we find.”

They're loosing a pile of money in the process, they'll likely get all that fixed ASAP.

I find that losing my flight is extremely unlikely. Expedia has always been very good of any cancellations or changes in my flight plan. They notify me far beforehand, and instantly set me up with a new flight if something goes wrong.

I've flown with Northwest Airlines 10 times, Delta once, and Frontier once. Not any of them had this sort of problem.

Indeed - they have just done this to me. Both my connecting flights to Pittsburgh have been replaced by different services about 5-10 minutes different to the original ones, which is nice.

On a related note, i recently found a note about some of the recent cancellations on my brother's blog.

:beatificsighs: One of the many reasons why i love my brother...

Note that the worst of these is lasting up to a week. Anthrocon is 10 weeks away. It's nothing to worry about.

I'm flying from such a remote location to various larger airlines, this makes me worry. I don't want to hear on the day of the flight when I fly from this small city to a major airport, "sorry, your flight has been cancelled" D:

If my past experiences are any judge, for them to cancel out from under you, completely, on that little advance notice, would most likely mean that they would feel obligated to book and pay for your flight on another airline. If they had to keep you overnight and you were away from home, they'd also have to pay for your hotel.

They really don't want to do either of those, for obvious reasons.

Probably. For an exact answer, you should refer to your airline's contact of carriage.

The Contract of Carriage for US Airways can be found here.
