My overlock machine sitting on my desk. Yay! I've an overlock machine of my own! I tried a couple machines out, first I tried the most current basic machine from pfaff which is hobbylock 4752 and was sort of displeased. The motor brr'ed when not pressing the pedal all the way, which indicated the motor was not German, or it was a less powerful motor. I tried the 4852, the current most advanced pfaff machine without a computer, and was completely happy. The motor did not brr when trying to use the machine slowly, the machine has hemming capability, 5 thread capability instead of 4, better contruction, larger, and had a better feel when using the machine. I love this machine, it is great. Now I can make my fursuit, and possibly get in to making some of my own custom clothes. I thought the price would've been expensive, but the machine cost me 1080USD plus tax. The lady gave me free lessons which took a couple hours, 4 free quality polyester spools of thread, and we just sat there and talked having a good time. If anyone has any other tips for making fursuits besides shaving fur off the edge do tell. I think I'll use a 4 thread stitch, but I'm not sure yet. I must test out how the edge looks with each type of pattern. I definitely recommend the coverlock 4852 to anyone who is even considering making their own fursuit. Always go with a quality machine, like pfaff. There are a few other major brands out there, but the pfaff store is the most local reseller which had the most types of machines available, even used ones. |
