This is very important to me so I appreciate the fact that you're curious enough to look into it, and hopefully bringing this out more will get the project more attention. Furries tend to be very serious about this sort of thing, which is good.

Anyway, for those of you who aren't aware, the northern hairy-nosed wombat (also known as the yaminon) is CRITICALLY endangered. Some estimates put the number of NHNW left at around 80 in the WORLD. There are NONE in captivity, and the ones that are left exist in one colony in one protected area in Western Queensland.

So, obviously, if a serious natural disaster were to occur, it could wipe out the rest of the yaminons in a single swoop.

My fursona is a northern hairy-nosed wombat, and I feel obligated to protect them, as all of them are very close to my heart. Right now efforts are underway to try and get a second colony going away from the first just in case something were to happen to the first colony. Also, there are a lot of issues with the lack of diversity in the gene pool which could contribute to exacerbated genetic problems and heredity defects.

Anyway, if you're interested in more information or would like to donate, you can visit here: http://wombatfoundation.com.au Also, they have some pretty cute shirts and books and gear related to the yaminon. :]

I would also appreciate it if you were interested in spreading the word about the efforts going to help save my brothers and sisters. The more people that know and try to help the better their chances are.
