BorrRRrrring. Your job in borrring. Interspersed with bouts of hard work. At least the pay’s decent.
Oh yes. Your job. You work on a bethnic mass transport. Basically an old deep water freighter sub. You don’t hall Long-John or anything valuable. But large mass quantities of gear and supplies to deep submergence research bases, Long-John mines and other very deep outposts and towns on Poseidon. Its nearly a year to make the circuit, starting at Daffid station. The floating city is the only place the Ship can dock near the surface.
But it takes just over a year to make a circuit in the Ship. And there isn’t a whole lot to do. Its big bulky, slow as all.. Errr. Get-out. In fact, the Ship is an old bulk ore carrier with several smaller decommissioned subs attached to it (striped of engines. And nearly everything else to make room for cargo storage.) The Ship probably has the largest cargo capacity of anything undersea right now. On Poseidon or Earth! The irregular outline and now underpowered MHD drives make the Ship slow and nearly un-maneuverable.
Your job? Mostly hauling crates and bundles in and out of the Ship. And a day or so after undocking to lay everything out smoothly for the next port-of-call wherever undersea that is. Then days, sometimes weeks of slow travel to the next station.

( i am accepting up to 8 players. pleaes leave a message if interested. ill prablay get into the gameing room about 9:00 am on Sat for this. if theres a table open there then)

Right here. I have several characters from a game I was running, but I can make up a new one, too.

BTW, I'll also be bringing my Anthro Biomod data sheets with me to the Con. In fact, I think Blue PLanet and Fireborn are the only two games I'll be bringing this year. DnD was a bust last year...

I have a preference for non-human characters, typically Orcas in traditional BP. In my own BP, I usually will play a Fox or an Otter. They're a lot of fun. Maybe a Snow Leopard. Depends on what plushie I'm channeling at the moment.

You know, I thought that I had clicked on the "Cookie" thread, and was scratching my head trying to figure out just what sort of cookie an "orca" was.

Oh, next you'll tell me something sillier, like that 'Dragons' aren't just big snakes with extra drumsticks.

(And yes, Orcas are of course mammals.)

Bear? BEAR?

See, and the orcas complain about getting mistaken for fish, but can't tell a bear from a mongoose!

--Chiaroscuro
(Of course, not many people know how mongooses look in the first place. Perhaps http://furhoo.com/art/Chiaroscuro/Chiaroscuro-Teaselbone.jpg , a fuller version of my icon, may help!)

Nice pic. However, you can understand how we would be mistaken. Mongeese (which I think is the proper pluralization of Mongoose) are musteline, which would give them slightly more pointed muzzles, narrower cheeks, and smaller ears a little further back on the head. Your icon, and the pic it is taken from, appear to be much more ursine in nature, from a traditional standpoint. Considering they hunt snakes, and often go down into the holes, a 'chubby' face isn't the best look for them. Yea for Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.

Go to my FA page (click on the website link under my name) and look up "Tully" in my drawings. He's an otter, but you can better see what I mean about the non-ursine features of the face.

BTW, if you plan to play, I can draw you a picture of Chiaroscuro at the Con. If I can get enough time to myself before the Con (not a guaranteed) I'm trying to put my Furry mods for BP into an Access DB with a character generation form, and several character sheet output reports. I haven't done such things in a while so its a re-learning process, but it should make character generation a lot faster. I have all the books so I'm planning to include all the BioMods in the DB.

Mongooses is the proper plural, as Mongoose comes from 'mangus' and 'mungo', and has no linguistic connection to the birdies. And actually, mongooses are not musteline, but viverrine, belonging to a family including binturongs, meerkats, fossas, civets, and genets.

And yes. Teaselbone's rendition is extraordinarily cute but rather cartoonified. Of course, I've had people see pictures of Chiaroscuro which involve him pouncing upon a snake fangs-bared and go "Uhm, so what is he?" so I'm used to confusion. Smiling

(And thank you, but I doubt I'll have any time to game at AC '08, with Registration duties.)

Yeah, sorry 'bout that. What can you expect from a snake with drumsticks and wings? *grin*

In Blue Planet, Orcas constantly fight against the stupidity of humanity because one of their nicknames is 'Blackfish', which is doubly wrong in their eyes because they are neither all black (lots of white on them) and they aren't fish. Silly Orcas, they should know humanity is one of the dumbest races around. Arguing with humans is like beating your head against the wall. It feels so good when you finally stop.

And call me a snake with drumsticks, and I'll show you some really good BBQ. I don't even have to depelt you first...

Well. Ive set up several characters for this. One Dolphin, but no Orca. A cargo sub is crampt as it is, normally. so theres not really room for something as massive as an Orca there. (unless you take out a Lot of cargo and flood one of the bays)

Well hope to see you soon. I should be running this about 9:00 am on Sat if possible.

Orca swim along side the subs, not in them. More than likely, he'll just have his drone (CICADA)on board. I usually make security types. Usually Exceptionals or Elites. I can send you a copy of the character once I finish him. I have a scanner and I can even give you a background. More than Likely, I'll import the data into WORD and make an editable sheet for you. I lost the ability to make PDFs when I upgraded to Vista. Its the ONLY thing I regret about Vista. Otherwise it's been a dream.

Couple of small things then....

the Sub is Bethnic. very deep sea, for months. an orca is not going to be able to follow it.
of course. if the Orca were cargo....

oh yes, and the characters are "everyday" level.

I would love to see the character though. hmm,. maybe it will show up at some point.......

lets see, what else do i need to clear up. hmm. its a bulk cargo hauler that moves from one deep sea station to the next, taking a year or more for a circuit. yep. very boring life.

Cetacean Osmiform (gills) Biomod. Stay underwater indefinitely, but must remain moving to keep water going over the gills. Not socially acceptable in most cases, as they really don't like being confused for fish, but, if its a deep submergence vehicle, then they might require it to do their job.

No offense, but everyday is boring. Especially with no biomods. Makes life on Poseidon both dangerous and difficult. Still, there are other options, like Cetacean dive tanks that work like SCUBA gear for Cetes. I just hate the limitations of everyday... *shudder* It goes against my philosphy that PCs are supposed to be at least a cut above normal people. Otherwise, what makes them different?

corax's picture
"hail and well met. hope you areu all well and see you in '08!"

you may not want to be in this scenario then im afraid..

of course... with an Osmoform.. while you can stay under for as long as you like. your limited to how deep you can go. 500m.

a Bethnic sub like this one will operate at 4-5,000m depth. well past crush depth for even most submarines.

of course. if no one else shows for the time. i can work with whatever you bring.

Well, I'll have several characters, so if you see one you like, I'll be happy to play something other than an Orca. And if no one shows, I'll have my stuff, so you're welcome to join in my little experiment. I'm working on a backdrop for my own RPG series of video games, culminating in a MMO release. I like working from actual RPG sessions, since they provide the best reactions to the events. They also tend to give me good feedback when I want to write scenes for the games as to what players will accept and what they won't.

oo great!! when are you holding your sessions?

Drakkon's picture

All con long. I also run these online using YIM Chat rooms as table-top style sessions. I'm gearing up right now for the new segment. I'll be making a few characters for the game, and allowing for people to make a couple new ones.

Damn damn damn. I posted a comment, but in the middle of posting I clicked off on another link and the post was lost.........

((EDIT: Or not.))

All con long. I set them up during AC to get the online table-top style sessions rolling for a longterm campaign. I'll have some pre-mades available so you can have a look at what I do and then I can also help you make a more personal character, if you prefer.
