AC '08 DJ Mixes and Samples
|
Since folks may want to hear what our DJs have to offer this year, I've asked them all to provide links to mixes or samples and I'll keep them consolidated in this post. Protocollie: Draconum: Rigel: Pardus: Big Blue Fox: Keep an eye on this thread for updates. If any of the DJs send me new links I'll update this post to reflect the changes. |

permalinkI'm trying to understand why people respond to something that makes no sense to them in the first place?
To quote from somewhere which i don't remember and please correct me if i'm wrong.

permalinkI'm guessing your not big fans of comedians are ya

That's quite alright if your not.
Though it probably would help if "ih" posted that on the 1st of April then maybe it would've made more sense to others.
Though i must say "ih" did a great job in causing confusion.

Nope, I book the DJs, but I am not myself a DJ
The 3 that I linked above have their respective DJ names above the URLs, hope that helps!

are there any videos, youtube or other of these dj's live spinning? like using actual turn tables and mixers and magic blinky green buttons? hehe
just out of curiosity cause last year running off of itunes, may have sounded alright, but having some one flex some great amounts of tremendous skill is entertaining to watch too ^.^

I'm pretty sure all of us mix, none of us run off of iTunes. Sorta a requirement, I think.

While live mixing is a clever skill that lends an art to spinning records, I just play off of a dual CD deck and the extent of my mixing consists of simple crossfading from one track to the next. No one seems to notice or care and I can hold my own in terms of drawing a crowd.

Oh, certainly! I didn't mean to imply that beatmatching is the only good way to play a set.
I meant more they're all live, performed sets rather than playlisted from iTunes.

Nobody who DJs at Anthrocon plays music from itunes or winamp or similar things. Not everyone I book mixes live, or on turntables, but I require a bit more effort from my DJs than just loading a playlist, I assure you
Just a clarification on Protocollie's response, live mixing isn't a requirement for DJing at AC, but there is a bias towards DJs who are visually entertaining as well as musically gifted.

That's why we put the DJs on stage and put spotlights on them!

I'll see what we can do as far as getting footage of DJs this year. If nothing else I may be able to just shoot some film on my camcorder that'll be good enough for youtube.

My link has a couple videos of my sets, BigBlueFox's showing a little footage of me, but I use CDs so am not particularly dynamic or photogenic when it comes to DJing - I'd rather the music and dancefloor be where the attention goes. Heck, I'd be happy if the DJ area was dark during my sets. I have a headlight.

:chuckles:
Everyone has their own particular style of communication. Years ago, though, i do remember a friend remarking that to her, the importance of a comment was inversely proportional to the number of exclamation marks used on it. The thought always made me smile. *grins*

This is a really late response but I didn't want this suggestion to go unanswered
We could pay for private hosting to put DJ mixes online, but with 2800 members, not counting those who would download them even if they don't attend, we'd be looking at _tremendous_ bandwidth usage.
That being the case, it comes down to a decision. Should the convention spend money on hosting DJ mixes, or would that money be better spent if it went back into the con itself? Personally, this is just my opinion, hosting mixes would be nice, but that money can be better spent on improving the con every year.
