There are 3 dances at Anthrocon, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The experience varies between each evening, and for each DJ specifically, so it's hard to say exactly what it will be like. Some of the DJs will be playing pop music, 80s, and other lighter fare, and some of the DJs will be playing darker and heavier music more common in clubs.
If you head on over to the dance forum, you can find lots of information about the line-up, and the DJs in particular. The "Spotlight on a DJ" feature that is updated each week will give you the best idea of what sort of music to expect from each DJ.
Hope this helps!

Cosplay is just fine.
I should also point out that only about 12% of our attendees participated in the fursuit parade last year, and many of us do not own fursuits. You'll fit in just fine without one.

Kaworu,
Let me welcome you to our "little" gathering.
Anthrocon is a really friendly environment where you have the potential to make a lot of new friends and have a great time.
There are a few things I can recommend. Please consider dropping by the "So this is your first Furry con?" panel. It's hosted by myself, Uncle Kage (our Chairman), and 2 the Ranting Gryphon. It's a fun way to get a quick orientation on the convention and some of furry fandom's specific etiquettes (our elevator etiquette, sketchbooks, the 6-2-1 rule, fursuiters, and all kinds of things.)
I am myself a fursuiter, but as Giza (our Operations Director) has indicated, only about 10-15% of the convention has fursuits. So don't worry there. Most of our attendees won't be in costume.
As for the dances, I'm working with our Dance and A/V director on the logistics of them right now...I believe you will not be disappointed.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. It's a friendly environment and both the staff and our attendees are more than happy to share information with you.
