For some reason, I can't seem to find anything about being able to pre-register and be able to pay at the door. Which confuses me because that's what someone else I know has done, and has confirmation... What am I doing wrong? Did I just get in too late? ~Larth |

According to the FAQ and the registration system, you have to pay immediately if you're pre-registering, either by mail or online. If you want to pay at the door, you can't pre-register.

Felix is correct. If you pre-register, we need the money now. Of course, you have another 3 weeks left to pre-register, so if you do not have the money today, you can wait a little while.
Once June 6 comes about, we can take no more pre-registrations. You will have to register at the door at that point.
(BTW, there were some incorrect responses to this question that I quietly removed, lest they lead to confusion.)

To further expand upon the extant, excellent, and correct comments from Softpaw and Kage:
Anthrocon operates its Pre-Registration in separate areas than New (at-convention) registration. This allows us to remove the need for money-handling from the Pre-Reg areas, and instead focus upon checking of identification, securing of signature, and distribution of badges and materials. It makes Pre-Reg very, very fast. (Which is one of the best reasons to Pre-Register.)
If we permitted pre-registration without payment, we'd have much more trouble with people in the system that would simply decide to not show up. We'd have to account for that group in financial projections, handling them in the database, and potentially printing badges for them that would be disposed of, badges which do cost us money with the lovely hard plastic security-laminated indelible-printed goodness.
I have yet to hear of any other furry conventions which offer unpaid pre-registration. If anyone knows of one, I'd be curious to contact them and find out how and why they do it.
Now, on a side note: we are able to perform upgrades at the convention from Attending to Sponsor and Supersponsor levels, if you've pre-registered (Or if you haven't). Perhaps this is what your friend meant. But if we have not taken his or her money[*1] yet then he or she is not yet registered for Anthrocon.
