Conbook Suggestion

To whomever this may concern, Before I goto bed tonight I figured I'd throw this out there since the conbook deadline is approaching fast. I know this isn't my place to be saying any of this and I hope no one takes any offense to what I say, nor do I believe this has been done before. But I noticed there was a Marine by the nickname "Primacorza" that passed away December of 2007. He was a fellow furry as well as a servicemen to this country. I tend to believe that when people goto convention's and they receive a convention book, the last thing they want on their mind's is the topic of death. I too have to agree, the death of someone is quite hard for me as well, but it doesn't mean you have to forget those who've moved on spiritually. I would just like to know if there has been a "Dedication" page to those who passed away in any of the conbooks in the past? If not could we start one for this year and the one's in the coming year's? I feel that this sort of thing should be honored, but again I'm not the one running the show. Apollo- |

I don't know how you could think anyone could take offense to that suggestion, really.
We're a community and as a community it'd be nice to offer some sort of dedication and respect to those who can't spend time with us anymore. I'm with you on this one, the problem would be getting a list of people to dedicate to.

Perhaps if you asked for people to submit their dedications "X" amount of time before the conbook is published?
You could always say like "The first 50 people" or whatever...or have a few folks go through the probable slew of dedications to find the ones that would really be meaningful and lasting. I'd be willing to help

You should email this to book-2008 AT anthrocon.org.

Another pair of concerns:
1) What sort of drama would ensue if someone were left off the list, either through miscommunication, human error or other factor?
2) Who "qualifies" for the list? Someone who showed up once at Anthrocon in 2002 and never came back? The late sister-in-law of a grieving member? My mom's dog Harley? We only have so much space in the con book, and every additional page adds to the final cost.

1) Obviously a notification ahead of time to create a roster before a said date would be useful. There should be no drama with something like this but again I deal with people on a daily basis that if one little thing was messed up it's like the whole world coming down on them. So there should be someone that takes the name's researches to see who this actually is and if it's a legit name.
2) Well obviously it's anyone who was a part of the "Furry" community, again that raises some question because anyone can be a furry. Again this was a suggestion, the reason why I brought it to genenral discussion is because I never got an email back from the two I sent to the conbook email address.

I would first like to take this moment, all things other aside, to salute Primacorza for his service to his country and people, and honor him for making the ultimate sacrifice. I highly regard our military and service persons for their duties performed.
Now, as a suggestion. Although it's too late for conbook submissions for 2008, if you wished to purchase and design a memorial page (or section of a page) within the conbook for 2009, clearly noted as it coming from a separate entity than Anthrocon Inc, I think we would find that acceptable. http://www.anthrocon.org/advertising has the prices as they currently stand.
There may be other possibilities, but that might be one to pursue for next year.

Aye, alright, if I knew that I would've done it a long long time ago.
