Ok. my mate is 23 but doesnt have a government issued ID. he has a photo ID that has his picture, full name and birth date on it. unfortunately it's a jail ID. Does that work?? we are having such a hard time getting his picture ID. you need ID to get ID in NJ. It's so ridiculous. so is that ID ok? |

You should be able to get a state issue photo ID with a birth certificate and social security card.

Do try your best to get a state-issued ID.
Should you be unable to, bring all the identification that you can; birth certificate, credit cards, bank cards, pay stub bearing name, as well as that Jail ID. It's impossible to bring too much correct identification to Anthrocon.

Your mate can send off for a birth certificate....and there might be enough time for it to come in. These things get lost so of course there are ways to re-gain then.
Once he does that take a paycheck stub...and a proof of address....and have him go to DMV....they can then give him an ID...and that should be enough. If it's issued by DMV than....it should be fine, right? ;last question targets other furs;
Also...I have a military ID....is that enough? ;also a question to other furs;

I might be going out on a limb, here, but has he gone down to the local courthouse or county clerk's office and explained his situation, and asked them for advice on what to do? Or has he just looked on the internet for the documentation required and then thrown up his hands and said, "Oh, I'm screwed"?

lol no. he has called SC where he was born and talks to them a few times, and asked a bunch of other people. he's going to go to social services tomorrow and talking to them.

A Military ID is one of our prefered forms of Identification, and it will be fine, indeed.

Awesome.
I really don't want to have to go down to Hell...I mean DMV to get one until it is completely necessary.

...Wouldn't a prison ID be government-issued by default, and thus sufficient to get into AC?

It's not one of our preferred forms of Identification, but it coupled with some other suggestions I've made privately in email to Vitani, if followed, ought to be sufficient.
Our three key criteria on identification are date of birth, picture, legal name, and proof of issue. The latter is best explained as 'How much we can trust the source of this identification to have done their work of verification'. With driver's licenses, passports, etc we have a great deal of trust we can place in a intact ID. A prison ID is, at lea very least, something we have not dealt with yet, and the registration department gets antsy.
In these situations, we like more ID. More ID! MORE ID! MORE AND MORE AND MORE ID!
Er. *ahem* You get the point.

permalinkWhat if we walked up with a huge cardboard cut out of an ID and a huge square hole for us to put ourselves behind, would that work?
