So yes, this will be my first AC. Been to only two other furry cons (FF '06/'07) The general thing I've been told by most folk was unless you are tied to a group of folk like a knot (SHUDDUP!! LOL) that to not expect to see most of those whom you were hoping to see. Being used to a smaller convention ala FF I pretty much ran into my friends like a gazillion times in a given day, where as AC where most of the travel capable furries in the general continental US tend to make their pilgrimage. Ugh, woe is me... Just thankfully I could actually make it. Due to mistakes made by HR at work, I almost didn't have the ability to come. For some reason they force me to only work 7 hours a day and then to make matters worse, they decide to take an hour from my accrued vacation/personal time to fill the gap >< Thankfully I fixed this so I can actually utilize the time I've worked so hard to accrue. That's to say that because of this issue, I can only get sick for 1 hour for the remainder of this year O.o punks.... TANGENT!! sorry, got carried away there. I just wanted to make my mark and hope to meet new folk and spark newfound friendships *only* (as I am currently taken and happy I am starting my trek wed morning though I only live in Massachusetts, my ride share/room mates decided it best to leave extra early. Please let me know if you want to meet up/hang out at any time, I'm pretty easily reached thanks to mobile technology at it's finest. email gets to my digits in a jiffy. Hello there, Nighteyes. Anthrocon indeed is big; Last year we were 4 times the size of FurFright (Which is still not small, at 700+ people!); this year we are projected for over 3,000 attendees. So you are less likely to randomly bump into any given person, yes. But you'll still see a lot of familiar faces, and I'll be behind the Registration desk.
From Springfield, you've got a good 10 hour drive to Pittsburgh. Drive carefully and switch out drivers if possible.

permalinkof course!! it'll be good to see ya again, been a long time since spotweld's gaming meets, if he still holds them. oh and ten 4 with the driving, we got 4 of us in the car, so it should be ok. I mean, I was able to handle a car trip driving to oklahoma in 24 hours non stop driving with 6 of us. was a pain....i got shafted with the graveyard shift ~_~
Anyways, cant wait to see ya again! Chows!

I make it a point to exchange cellphone numbers before the con with folks I want to meet.

I'm getting a cellphone this weekend, primarily so people can find me at AC, but also because I really need to replace the dead phone I've been using (no service, SPRINT SUCKS!!!!) as a clock/datebook/phonebook.

I look at things this way:
Anthrocon is a place for you to not only meet up with old friends, but to meet NEW ones too. There's not another furry convention around (at the moment) that has 3000+ people. That's a real assortment of people for you to talk to. There are more panels and events going on than you can shake a stick at.
So in a nutshell, if you are only looking to see and hang out with one gruop of people, yes you'll want to stay very close to them and make sure all the events you want to do are in synch. If you want to meet a lot of new folks, then take that brave first step and go to some new events, talk to new folks, and have a whole lot of fun! You never know if your new best friend in life is waiting there for you to meet them!

It really pretty hard keeping track of people without the cellphones. I must have spent half the time last time just looking for people. I may try a blue tooth ear piece in the fursuit this year if I can manage it.
One of the furs that was looking for me was only told I was the "one" in the raccoon suit lol. No surprise he never found me!

*grin* So... how are you going to push the button on the ear piece? Are you going to bang the side of your head repeatedly until it activates?

Yay Doom!
Anyway, I think, the best thing to do is just to try to meet as many different people as you can while you are there. There will be so many!

permalinkMaybe it's not so bad
Two years ago was my first year. I had met in person a total of two people that I knew were going to be there one time.
I'm horrible with names and faces.
One cell phone call and I found one of them. After that, I ran into people I knew from the 'net every ten minutes
