Correct. You may not enter the mature area of the art show until you are 18 years of age. This is a matter of Pennsylvania State Law, and not a choice on our part.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a question relating to the mature art show: Where is the line drawn at the "mature" level? Can anything go like pornography, or does it have to be more tame like nudity done in a tasteful manner and no excess gore?

permalinkIts mature if there are any "pink" bits showing. Genitals, overt female nipples and anything that implies or outright shows sexual relations.

This much blood or more will necessitate a mature space. The gore threshold is fairly low:

I have shown WAAAAAAAAAAAAY bloodier pieces than that in mature, without a peep.
There generally is not an upper limit on how violent or porntastic the mature art can be. The only restriction is on the no underage character shown in sexual situations. And one on "it must be furry characters." Other than that, anything goes. (for more specific guidelines, see the art show page)
From going for several years, the majority of the adult show is stuff sent there for naughty bits, largely nipples. Some of it is totally unerotic as its sort of National Geographic style nudity. There is always some stuff in the mature section that you cannot unsee once you've seen it (no matter how hard you try), but the rest is largely fine art nudes. But there's always some that go into such graphic detail, you wonder if you're looking at a gynecological chart.
I'd say maybe 5% or less of the 'mature' art is sent there for being violent or gorey.

I believe the underage policy is not so much "no character can be underage" as "no character can be shown if the average person, not knowing anything about the character, would think that (s)he looks underage." Thus, no 5,000 year-old werewolves who age so slowly that they still look about 6.
Also, the furry characters bit is a little weird, iirc. I believe we have had stuff in the art show that didn't exactly portray characters as such at all; the most notable example i can remember was when someone brought some animal-themed beadwork jewelry. It might be more accurate to say that everything needs to have an anthropomorphic or animal theme to it, and any grey areas should probably be run by the art show staff, just to be on the safe side.

We do not have the time to argue minute points about the suitability of individual pieces of artwork. The Art Show Director is a reasonable man, and if he feels that it is not in anyone's best interest for a piece of artwork to be visible to minors, then it goes into the Mature Gallery.
