I'll be bringing my Garmin 76CSx to the conference so I can find my way! Sticking out tongue I'm that insane! Eye-wink

Actually I'll be geocaching if anyone wants to join and help find caches. Smiling I'll be in Pittsburgh from the 20th to July the 7th.

The only cache is, *evil kangaroo laugh*, you'll need to be around me.

For those who don't know what geocaching is, please visit http://www.geocaching.com/

Garmin is THE standard for geocaching if anyone is looking to get in to the activity. I don't recommend buying a GPS unit which 1) isn't Garmin and 2) isn't Geocaching ready.

Garmin devices which are Geocaching ready have a very nice feature, you can send the coordinates straight to Garmin from the geocaching website.

Note: sorry Magellan users, you're hung out in the rain because of the terrible company which not only has terrible customer support, they have terrible service devices. The whole explorist series is useless because the company who bought the magellan name doesn't know how to update those cool eXplorist GPS units, they'd rather sell you a new version which doesn't even really match the quality of the eXplorist series.

Anyway, Laughing out loud Fun fun!!

Hmmm - I have a Garmin GPS 38...It is about the size of a TV Remote control, so it won't be a problem to pack - I might as well. If I run into you, it might be a fun diversion, particularly for Thursday.

Are there any interesting caches in the part of Downtown within walking distance (about a 3 mile radius) of where the convention is?

Do you have a collection of trinkets/tchachkies to leave at the sites, in exchange?

I've been setting up my own caches where I live, but here is a link of the Pittsburgh area. There are plenty of caches to find.

Garmin all the way. I recommend pre-uploading the geocaches to your unit if it supports it. Though I'll be bringing my macbook pro for work and such.

25 caches in a area less than a mile, there are more caches when you expand the viewable area, I think this will be fun.

You'll notice me, I'll be a blue kangaroo fursuit. Eye-wink You can also shoot me an email and I'll read it fairly quickly since I'll have them forward to my cellphone. I think my email is visible, if it is not, use the contact tab.

Yes, I've items to trade out, but I expect many of those to be microcaches or about the size of a sandwhich rubbermaid container. I hope the muggles don't stare while I'm trying to find items.

That sounds like a very ingenious and entertaining activity. If I had a GPS unit, I might just do that.

-Estimated six so far. Let's hope it doesn't go higher!

Ahh Geocacheing If it weren't for the fact that I don't have money I would get myself a GPS and join you. But AC is more important then me partaking in geocacheing.

How ever I did accidentally find one while hiking with friends. It was really cool, although we had no idea what it was. I exchanged a swiss army knife (or something like that) for a lock of hair. Laughing out loud Was really cool.

I generally don't post links to product sites... I bought a Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx new for 226.99

http://www.compuplus.com/i-Garmin-GPSMAP-76CSx-Handheld-GPS-Unit-0100046900-1006303~.html?sid=7s982uucan5w9wm

For some odd reason if I go to the compuplus site directly and check the price its 229.99, but if I google the device, it gives me a different link on the compuplus site and the price is 226.99.

Generally the price for the 76CSx is 299.99. The newer units Garmin makes is called the Colorado, which is better for paperless caching since it can contain ALL the data about the cache like the description, clues, and what not. I however, do not want a Colorado or ever want one unless they solve all the hardware and software bugs which riddle the colorados. Many hardcore geocachers swear by them even though they have issues.

Come on, 226.99 + shipping is not much. Eye-wink Geocaching is really fun, I've been putting caches together myself and plan on having about 10 of my own caches where I live.

It's easy to buy items you want while paying the bills. One FT salary job, and two part time jobs(my business, kinda PT/FTish), its really fun to earn money. Eye-wink

Work the rat race, get ahead.

I'm gonna see if I can snag my husband's GPS unit--it not only would help my friends and I get out to the con more easily (it helps you get unlost if you take a wrong turn Sticking out tongue), but then I could go geocaching...

But no promises >.>

Feel free to email me or whatever...
