Hi, Due to a flaw in the contact system here, the person who I had contacted for a ride never got my reply to her inquiry and I basically got screwed, so now I'm stuck at the door with no way to get to the con. I can help pay for gas and I'm a pretty quiet guy, so you shouldn't expect much trouble (I'll probably fall asleep on the ride. No, I can't drive). I'd have a small suitcase and a fursuit at the most, and my hotel is the Hampton Inn not too far from the center. Please please please save me, someone... Everything was just too good to be true until ten minutes ago, when it suddenly was. My email should be listed, but I'm not trusting the effin' system anymore, so if you have an offer for me, add me to MSN with stealthpuma1@hotmail.com or Yahoo! with fractal333. At this point I'm expecting to get no ride at all and be told that all the bus and plane seats are taken too, but I have to try. |

What flaw is that? We would like to fix it immediately.

permalinkI tried to reply to the email that I was sent through the contact form here. I contacted the person with it, and they used it to get back to me. In my inbox, though, I hit 'reply', and it never got to them.

Just to make sure I understand the events here, let me repeat them back:
1) Someone went to your contact form at http://www.anthrocon.org/user/2218/contact, filled out the form and submitted it, which sent you an email.
2) You replied to that email.
If I have it right (and I just sent myself a test message through the site to confirm), when you are sent an email through the contact form, the From: address on it is that of the sender's, so that when you reply, the email is sent directly to them, bypassing the site. So, why didn't the email make it? That could be any number of reasons, such as spam filters, whacky mailservers, and other things that we can only speculate about.
But let's address your core issue of getting a ride.
I do not know anyone in Montreal who is currently offering a ride, but I know of some Montreal furry communities where you can ask:
http://www.monfur.ca/
http://community.livejournal.com/monfur/profile
You may also wish to check out http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Quebec on WikiFur.
Other than that, have you considered taking a bus or a train? I imagine that it would be easier to get that sorted out than a ride.
Back to the messaging issue again, I'd like to ask you this: would you be interested if we looked into a sort of "private message" system for the website, where messages are stored in our database, similar to what phpBB does?

permalinkI looked at Greyhound's prices not long after posting this, but I'm considering it a last resort (19-20 hour travel time, is car faster?). I don't know Pittsburgh or how I'd get to the con center from the bus terminal (which I am assuming exists), or if my hotel's shuttle does pickups from it (I will be asking that at some point in time).
Mostly it's because I'm rather intimidated by the trip itself, and going on my own seems fraught with karma-induced dangers (look at what happened with the ride I, briefly, -had-).
As for the spam filter and such thing, it's possible, yes... but I sent an email directly to the person earlier today and it got through well enough that she replied within minutes. It could be any number of causes, but I'm going to call Occam's Razor and say it's most likely the contact form. We'll see with the test.
I appreciate the links to other websites. I'll check them out in a few days if this turns out dry (I have until the 17th to buy a bus ticket at a good price). It's not making me look very good, but I have a thing about registering with websites. Any website. Even registering on this one took me a long time.
As for PMs? See above. Not the best person to ask, I'm afraid. Heck... I don't even like email, actually

If you go to http://www.anthrocon.org/map and zoom out, you'll see a purple line which is the path from the Greyhound station to The Westin Hotel. Though your best bet would be to grab a cab from the Greyhound bus terminal.
If you're into into PMs either, what /is/ your preferred form of communication? I'm a programmer by trade, so I can look into making it happen. Thanks!
