I do a bit of DJing for a weekly internet radio show every Saturday night from 7-9 Eastern. Since I'll be at AC during that time slot, I was hoping I'd be able to do a show from the con itself, perhaps talk to some of the attendees and such. Nothing major, just a little out of the way spot with moderate traffic. All I'd need is a stable wi-fi or ethernet internet connection to connect my laptop to. Would there be any problems with this? I'm talking any sort of problem, from lack of internet access to people not wanting me around. If I'm unable to broadcast from the con for any reason, I'll just do a more traditional solo show from my hotel room. |

I think I might be interested to hearing it. What type of music do you spin to?

It's not an actual DJ thing, just streaming audio through WinAmp to an Icecast server.
Mostly I play video game music or strange stuff like The Aquabats and Group X.
The show is hosted by Starmen.net, an EarthBound fan site. Many people at FWA seemed to enjoy EarthBound, which I'm hoping is a common trend among other gamer furries.

Stable Internet may be a problem. The hotel has 2 T1 circuits (3.088 Mbps) of connectivity for the entire hotel.
You may want to see if your cellphone provider has a data plan and go for Internet that way, as the cellular network is likely to be less congested than the hotel's network.

I currently don't have any kind of subscription like that, and I wouldn't want to pay for it just for one weekend.
I got a good enough stream for most of the time I was doing my show at FWA, since it's not a terribly high quality output (~32 kbps mono), so hopefully it shouldn't be too big of a problem at AC. We'll see, though. If nothing else, I could record something without broadcasting and then play it back on a later show.

If you are broadcasting from Anthrocon, we are naturally concerned about content and in what context our name is used. Have you read the section of our standards of conduct regarding press coverage?

And that right there would be reason enough for me not to do the show at the con.
I understand the concern, but I can assure you that I have no ill intentions. It's a family-friendly show, with my slot focusing mainly on video games and their music, and I mainly intend to mention AC to let the listeners know where I am, what I've been doing, what kinds of things they could expect at such a con, and why I suddenly have friends with me during the show. If any of this is a problem, I can cut any mention of it out of the show and just do things as I usually do, with the inclusion of a few friends.
