Sneak peek for the Art Show!
Shhh! Here's a Work-in-Progress shot of a piece that will make its debut in the Art Show this year!

This is part of my "Peter and the Wolf" statue series...well, if it becomes a series. The instrument is redone, using intstrument repair techniques and equipment, into the animal it plays in the Prokofiev piece. Here is #1, the "Clarinet Cat." The entire sculpture is made ONLY (and entirely) from pieces of the instrument and adhesives used in the manufacture/repair of woodwinds.
So far I have 30+ hours invested into this work. It is not finished.
If I manage it, I will have a photo book showing WiP shots of the entire process at the Art Show.
Comments are encouraged. Serious, respectful critiques are appreciated. Stealing of this idea will make for a very, *very* unhappy instrument-repair-tech-in-training gryphoness.
Yes, it will be available for purchase in the Art Show.
The muzzle from the side looks a bit long, yes. It was made from pieces of the bell and mouthpiece and I may have extended it a bit too much.
But taken overall it's rather cat-like, especially from the back.
Others I'd like to do, depending on whether or not I can get my hands on an old instrument, are flute, horn (very unlikely, but one can hope!) and oboe (again, VERY hard to find, but we can hope!)
Outside of the "Peter and the Wolf" theme, I have plans to torture-errr, resculpt a saxophone and a trumpet.

Very cool idea! Definitely look forward to seeing this and your other works ^_^
How dare you dismantle a clarinet to sell! I am highly offended as a musician! *Sarcasm*
It looks nice though. Keep it up.
*laughs* Call it revenge for having played it for over 20 years, over 10 of them professionally.
And thanks!

While I find this to be a truly great concept, I have to say, as a bassoonist, I would be rather hurt to see a horn of which I play mutilated to make the Grandfather (Unless it were a Linton, and then I would encourage it), and would have to tell you "best of luck" to getting a french horn (or 3 that it requires to play the wolf's theme) to make the wolf.
This is a very neat concept, and moderately cooler than just using an old POS horn to make say, a table lamp.

I do make sure I work only with instruments that are "statue-worthy" (as my instructor calls them). I actually had a cornet last semester that wound up getting restored instead.
As for a bassoon.... the likelihood of my *finding* a "statue-worthy" bassoon is slim to none, so no worries there.
We (my class) had enough trouble finding one to refinish for this semester's classes.

Hehe, you could try contacting my old college, if you wanna have your hack at restoring an Amati or Linton (they would probably let the linton go for cheap). I let you know in a private email what university I attended...but could also see what I can find that would be sculpture-worthy on the internet. Again, very nice on the cat.
Then again, if I ever found a very old run-down Fox bassoon, I think it would be cool to have a fox sculpture made from it (since I play on a Fox Artist 240, and am a leofox).

looks nice so far! but a bit long in the muzzle for a cat?
maybe just the angle of the view.
will it be available to purchase? what others do you plan in the series?
