If I do not share a room with someone, I will be most likely taking my own room.

What are the rates per night for a basic single-person room? I do not care about location.

I'll be staying 7 nights, so I'd like to get an idea of what kind of money I need to save for the hotel in the next months.

Check the hotel information (click the "Hotel" link to the left.)
The convention rate for ALL rooms, IIRC, is the SAME.
You MIGHT reconsider 7 nights straight if it's just you in the room...

After viewing the hotel information and website, I remain confused by a simple detail, though I cannot determine the answer. This topic also increased my doubts.

When you say the convention rate for all rooms is the same, does that mean that every room is $110 p/n (+taxes etc...) per person or per room? (i.e. is a 2 person room $220 or $110?). I'm sorry if this seems silly, but it seems to elude me.

The $110 rate is per room, for up to 4 people.

Good idea to ask though, because different hotels do different things. Some hotels do charge different rates based on the number of people in the room. In our case, we negotiated a flat rate for any number of occupants since we know that our members tend to share rooms, and sometimes arrangements change at the last minute. Sticking out tongue

So, what's the best idea here? Can you really get a cheaper rate by sharing a room, or are there discounts?

You don't get a cheaper rate for sharing, you just split the cost with your roomies.

yes its cheaper to share a room..but omg..privacy issues. I shared it with my BEST friend and we still had a buncha comflicts. I highly suggest getting to know your roomies afore hand! I'm getting my own room..erg.

It also helps to outright ask questions like:

"Are you a drinker/smoker?"
"Will you be bringing 3 tons of luggage?"
"Will you be able until all hours of the night or are you an early riser?"

...before the con.

That can help nip any issues in the bud, so to speak.

The Price last year if I remember correctly was $110/night. I think the price is the same this year, you should check with the hotel on that. As to how much to save, Plan on 110 a night at least + 20% for taxs. All told I'd Expect $1000 for just the room for 7 nights.

Hope this helps.

$1200 isn't going to be a problem, though I would invite furs to stay with me (I'm currently looking for other Minnesota-based congoers). My entire AC trip I'm going to be saving anywhere from $2000-$2500.

$1200 - Hotel, 7 nights
$200 - Supersponsor/Donator
$300 - Food (You have to eat.)
$500+ - Spending cash (Travel, too). Prepare, artists. I might buy a lot more than last year.

I screwed up my budget AC '06, which brought on a cherry-red face.

Right now I have $400 saved after one month, covered my bills and expenses.

And I'm posting this to give other congoers an idea on what they should be saving. If you're sharing a room, make sure to save more than you need, because there will always be an emergency purchase somewhere during your stay. My last taxi ride eliminated my spending cash! O_O;;
