My spotter cannot make it (last minute). Can I have a friend use his registration instead?

Okay, probably a dumb question to ask but figured I'd ask anyways. I found out yesterday (June 16th) that my spotter will not be able to make it. Could I give the registration to a friend, since money is tight for him? Or, no? |

The good ol' US Army is shipping him out to East Africa on the 22nd, so I'm stuck with a registration for him.

I'm afraid registrations are not transferable, nor past the deadline (June 7th, this year) are they refundable.

permalinkAlright, I figured such would be the case but I still wanted to ask to confirm.

permalinkIsn't that a bit short-notice for the Army to give him though? Not that I know anything about deployments, but I usually hear people have like 3-6 months advanced warning.
Or is this part of a new invasion I hadn't yet heard about?

permalinkIt's the Army, they're weird like that, it's all I know. My friend said that it was once he got into his company, and he put his leave papers in, his got to the top of the list and once they notice he had some certain qualifications, his leave was denied. I was so angered when I heard he couldn't make it.
And, he's not invading (altho, knowing him, he's like a walking Bruce Willis movie), he's just a heavy-duty truck driver hauling either troops or large pieces of pipe.

HA! Depending on the urgency of the need, and the skills or talent required and available, Individual or Team deployments and can be in as little as 4 hours - and I know of one case where a certain individual just happened to be driving to an air base for a very routine delivery, and during the jeep-trip, a need arose, a call went out, and by the time the individual pulled the jeep through the gate at the air base, the Security Police were waiting for him...and not 45 minutes later, he found himself aboard a C-130, flying out-of-country (well - it was a very small country anyway, so MOST flights on a C-130 were "out-of-country") and over the next week got to see more of South America than he had really cared to.
Certainly, that had NOT been his intention when he had got up that morning...
The OUGHT to be a flexible mechanism of contingencies, to allow for such unforeseen and unintended "diversions". But that is up to the registration staff, to make policy, and to implement it in a fair and just manner.

*bows head* Another con goer lost. Oh when will it end?
Anyway Chiaroscuro is correct; registrations cannot be transfered, nor can they be refunded after the deadline. Your friend will have to wait in line at the convention to pay at the door.

Imagine that, the director of registration was right about a registration question...
