Q1: Are we allowed to bring a small portfolio/folder into any artrooms to store our purchased art in?

Q2: What about backpacks?

Q3: So, no cameras in those rooms, right?
(Obviously, taking photos of individual artwork is a no no but what about photos at large (eg. a shot of the room, etc.)?

Thanks,

~FD~

If you are referring to the art show: Probably not, no, and no.

If you are referring to Artist's Alley or the Dealer's Room: Yes, yes, and cameras are fine.

A1: You are permitted to bring portfolio/folders into the “Dealers room” and the “Artist alley”.
You are NOT are permitted to bring portfolios/folders/binders/or bags into the "Art show".
However, there will be a bag check station just outside the art show where you can check in these items and someone will keep them there for you until you exit the art show. At time of sales, you can check in your bags/folders outside the art show at the bag check station, go into the art show, purchase your art, leave the art show, reclaim your bag at the bag check station, then put your items into the bag outside the art show.
The idea behind banning bags from within the art show is to both keep art from making their way out of the art show and to keep potentially damaging items (such as food or drink) from making their way in. I’m not saying you would do anything like that, but incidents in the past have proven this policy to be necessary.

A2: see A1

A3: No cameras will be permitted into the art show and I do not believe they will be permitted in the room during either of the art auctions.
Cameras are permitted in the Dealers room. I’m not aware of the current policy with cameras in the artist alley. Out of respect for the artists, I would hope if you bring a camera into the artists alley, that you not take any photos of the artists works.
I have seen several pictures of Hall C in its entirety displayed in a number of places. Given that as evidence, I would have to assume that it would be permissible as long as you weren’t doing so for nefarious reasons (and if you were I’m sure you wouldn’t be asking). Again, I’m not sure what the policy is, so you would have to ask the specific departments (dealers room and artist alley) to be sure.

What Gizmo said ... I'll add that, from any vantage point where you can see parts of the Art Show from outside the curtain wall, without venturing into the Art Show itself, all the artists have given permission for their artwork to appear in the background of photographs taken of the room in general. So don't worry about casual snapshots taken in the vicinity of the Art Show entrance. But if the Dorsai see a big telephoto lens, they may get a bit suspicious!

Thank you for answering!

I've thought of one more question though: Do you get receipts for any artwork you buy and regardless of whether it came from the art's alley, dealers room, etc.? I'm asking because I need documentation to prove the value of any goods I import into Canada on my way back home. (Sigh! So much for the so-called 'Free Trade Agreement' being 'free'.)

Much thanks!

The Art Show and Artists' Alley do provide receipts.

In the Dealers Room, you are giving the money to individual dealers, so you'll need to be sure to ask them for receipts, as not all dealers will provide receipts automatically.
