Post your 2008 fursuit track feedback

Hello all, I'm Ronin Otter and I work with KuddlePup as the fursuit track coordinator. My job is to help pull together and advise on fursuit-related activities and panels at the convention. If you're a fursuiter who participated in any events which involved costuming, I'd really like to hear feedback from you on how they went, good or bad. With over 450 costumes showing up in the parade this year, the fursuit track is one of the biggest at the con, and is growing at an amazing rate. With that in mind, we place a high priority on always improving the track's events and panels. So, if you have a moment, post a reply with anything on your mind with regards to fursuit-related panels, the fursuit games, or general issues relating to costuming around the convention space. For issues regarding the fursuit parade or masquerade, you may wish to start a separate topic since those are large enough events to have their own track coordinators. I look forward to hearing from you! -Ronin |

I didn't really attend any of the panels, but whoever arranged a second fursuit dance, thank you!
The only comment I have about costuming around the convention space was already brought up in another thread, but I'll mention it here incase you didn't see it. A place to dehead closer to the dealers room so we can spend more time entertaining the dealers and artists next year. Other then that, everythign was great.

That was me and SimbaLion. While this was done to make up for those who read the error on the grid and thought the dance was from 11-midnight, the second fursuit dance was immensely popular. So much so, that we're looking into the option of having a fursuit friendly dance again in the Pennsylvania room next year on both days as well.
Also the idea of having a fursuit "pitstop" in Exhibit Hall C came up too late after out contract was signed this year (and we simply didn't have a way to pipe and drape a new area in time). However, it will be looked at for next year.

You know, at some point a person brought a remote controlled car, and let fur-suiters chase after it. I was one of the people who chased it, and found it very fun.
I could easily see that being turned into some sort of a little furrie game or something. It's just a suggestion.

Perhaps Furry races? (Like dog track races, but with the remote controlled car standing in for the mechanical rabbit)

permalinkI saw someone using a laser pointer on the floor during the fursuit-friendly dance, and began chasing it around, batting at it with my paws.
Things like that are always fun, and they might inspire some events for the games next year.

Not related to the fursuit track, but it was nice hanging out with you on the Cheetah Lawn on Saturday night.

permalinkI was part of the fursuit parade, and honestly, I wish there was a way to speed up the waiting when we got onto the balcony and we had to wait in the sweltering heat while everyone got into position for the photographer to take a photo. I enjoyed being in suit, however it was murder waiting in that heat for so very long.

I was in that myself. And we do have a method for speeding up that process. We're looking at a signal system to indicate when the photographs are about to be taken, and when they are concluded.
The only logistical problem is: there were 450+ fursuiters trying to go down stairs at the same time. When the line stopped for any reason, it created a cascade. That was where the issue really was. We are definitely looking at options to speed up the exit from the balconies...because everyone really does love that photo op. We just want all fursuiters to be able to get the picture and get down quickly.
Speaking of the parade, did we at least do a good job with the initial lineup? We were struggling with how to get everyone in the ballroom organized...and I think what we came up with worked well...but I'd like more feedback so we can continue to try and improve.

permalinkThe initial lineup worked great other than not knowing where the person speaking was located. It's kinda hard to figure out where "over here" is when you have no idea where the person on the mic is located. The parade went great and we had a blast waiting on the balcony waving to the tourists on the river. Was kind of confusing as to when the photo was taken and was surprised we weren't led back to the ballroom - ended up being a sort of free-for-all heading back.

What I was considering for next year was a series of colored lines of tape that we can use on the floor. That way we can identify "blue line", "red line", "Green line", "yellow line", etc. Also someone came up with the idea of using helium filled balloons for the registration lines. I know that there are mylar balloons made in the shape of numbers (for birthdays). Perhaps we can get 6 of those (or some similar signage) to mark the front of each line.
