Free water bottles in the rooms - Thank you!

I don't know if it was the hotel, or the con who arranged for the free water bottles in the rooms this year, but THANK YOU! It is so nice to see the hotel not nickel-and-diming us on this. Paying $3 for a 30 cent bottle of water is completely absurd, and this is the first hotel I *EVER* see where the water bottles are complimentary. I just wanted to post this because I want the hotel and con staff to know how much this little detail was appreciated. Thanks again! |

Er, well I stayed in the Westin and the water bottles I saw there had tags that said $2 a pop. o_o

$2 a pop for AQUA PANNA. I drank mine and happily paid, that's a darn good deal!

permalinkOdd, mine were "complimentary".
Maybe I got put into the wrong room block?
Did anyone else have complimentary water bottles? Now I'm wondering if my experience was a fluke. o.O

permalinkThose were $2 a pop, now free bottled water in the hotel rooms might be a good idea because I know a few people that got sick from pittsburg water and missed alot of the con.

Concrud, yes. But for a few folks with specific sensitivities, water.
One of my friends unfortunately ends up violently ill for some hours every time he has some pittsburgh water. If it were con crud, i'd be looking for him to be eating less healthily than he does. If it were microbes in the water, i'd be looking for him to suffer the effects a day or two later and for some days after that, and i'd be looking for him to have no problems with the water once it's boiled.
I saw him enjoy a breakfast on friday that included eggs (powdered, we later found out, and re-hydrated with local water) and hot tea and promptly (ans suddenly) spend most of the morning sick in his room, so my suspicion is that he has bad reactions to some chemical that pittsburgh uses to treat its water (that, or he has bad reactions to some chemical that the water picks up on its way downtown). It's nobody's fault, but it does mean he has to be careful what he eats and drinks in pittsburgh.
Of course, i know little of biochemistry, so that's just my uneducated guess.

If it were something in the water, I would have expected to see scores of cases. There is only one, however, and nobody else who consumed the same water reported any problems. And to the best of my knowledge, Pittsburgh does not treat its water with any unique additives that cannot be found in any other municipal water supply.

:nods: It's got me pretty puzzled, too. I'd say the whole thing was an exaggeration, had i not witnessed it myself.

There's probably not a lot there that might be helpful, but for what it's worth the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority posts their annual water quality testing results online at http://www.pgh2o.com/waterQuality.htm

There is always the chance though that some may confuse "City of Pittsburgh water" with "Allegheny River water" in which case it may be best to leave things up to Darwin.

We didn't get any free water at the Omni. In fact they actually charged us $5 for it. Whats so special about water from the French alps that they charge us $5 for???

permalinkIt's because beyond those Alps lie more Alps, and the lower Alps those who Alp themselves.

permalinkActually, it's "the Lord Alps those who Alp themselves."
In all fairness, I wasn't clear on what was said until Mark Evanier
posted sometbing on his website about it.

If you know of a way to get a pint or quart bottle of water all the way from the French Alps to Pittsburgh for less than $5, I'd be interested in hearing it!
