A partitioned area in the dealer's room for the fursuiters.

I don't know if any of the fursuiters have brought this up but it would really be nice if there was a small area partitioned off in the dealer's room for the fursuiters. Since it is quite a walk from the headless lounge on the third floor across from the ballroom to Hall C. I don't think that fans would be necessary but it would give us fursuiters a place so that we can dehead, rest and rehydrate for a little without others shouting out "YOU DESTROYED THE MAGIC!" For me, since I wearing a new pair of feet for my fursuit, found the walk from the headless lounge to Hall C and back very tiring and also very hot. I'm sure all the fursuiters would be very appreciative to have a little spot in the dealer's room so that they don't have to resort having walk all that way to the headless lounge and enjoy more time wandering around in the dealer's room. |

Ultimately, that comes down to a spacing issue: with the sheer amount of tables, stanchions, counters, boards, pipes, and wotnot we absolutely must fit into the room, there isn't exactly a large amount of space we could dedicate to a "Headless Area" without cutting some other area down or risking blocking the required fire aisles. It would also be rather difficult to maintain temperature in such an area; Hall C runs very warm no matter what we do simply because of the volume. We would be restricted on what kind of cooling we could use because of the power provisions in the convention halls, and water service must be scheduled and managed by the convention centre. I understand that you're probably not implying something on the scale of a full Headless Lounge, but there are many things to consider.
It's something that could be considered and discussed, but I can't say with any sort of specificity if such a Headless Area could ever happen. It's certainly something to consider.

I noted there was a short spur corridor next to hall C that has windows on part of it. (NOT the one that appears to have the fire doors) If that was not required to be open as a fire corridor, a simple screen placed by the entrance there could create a "break down lane" for fursuitors that just needed a couple minutes with head off. Don't put any fans down there, just give them a quick corner to duck into where they can sit on floor or lean against wall with head off. (which seems to be what the OP wanted. The equivalent of Superman's phonebooth or the Great Oz's screen)
They'd only be about 20 feet from the water station already inside the hall and conveniently within sight of the Dorsai guarding the doors should they need assistance.

Even with the shift to Hall B next year, we may be moving enough things into/around that space as well, that this might be tricky.
I think the shift to Hall B- a much shorter walk from the Headless Lounge- will help alleviate a great deal of the problems, but this is an idea we'll keep in mind when planning the space of that area.

Of course, the fact that hall c (and, i believe, hall b) is built more or less like a big greenhouse could also have some effect on that. Big rooms with high ceilings and a lot of windows and skylights letting in a lot of sunshine can get very warm very fast.
Not complaining, mind; just noting that it would be hard to provide the cooler temperatures that fursuiters need. Perhaps a bathroom along the way might be a good stopgap? They generally don't have huge groups in them, the running cold water is built in, and since it's a bathroom, i can't see anyone getting bent out of shape if you need to be in dishabille for a minute.

FWIW, we'll be in Hall B next year, so the walk will be shorter.

permalinkCool! Even better
Sorry, couldn't make it to the closing ceremonies if it was announced. All the con staff will be getting hugs by the big blue draggy next year!

We've decided that the reasonable extra cost is worth the extra space. We do appreciate donations though, to help things like this occur!

The mass of bodies in the DR tends to not help the situation either.

permalinkI second this request! I would have liked to spent more time in the dealers den in suit entertaining the dealers and making there con a little more enjoyable, but by the time you get all the way from the headless to the dealers room, and get knocked around by a few dozen people who expect fursuits to move out of the way for them, you don't make it by one aisle before you have to turn around and get back to the headless before you pass out. A small spot where you can take off your head and sit for a minute would add alot to the amount of time you can spend in the dealers room before you have to head back to the headless for a complete cooldown in a cold room.

I couldn't agree more, entertaining the dealers during their downtime is always rewarding. However, I know that because of the space involved, it probobly isn't feasable. The closest headless lounge is fairly far away, so it wouldn't hurt to have it positioned a little closer- although I have no idea where they'd put it, unless they threw up a sheet over one of the unused hallways- which wouldn't be too bad, if it were positioned halfway between the main hall and the dealers room.

permalinkIndeed but the position of the headless lounge is very close to the main ballroom - where the big dances are. The lounge being close to the biggest heat generators is a fairly good idea I would think.

(1) The entrance to Hall B is considerably closer to the Headless Lounge than the entrance to Hall C.
(2) We pay for pipe and drape by the linear foot.
