Are we going to hae post count again? i know that for the following reasons, *I* don't need it, but i was thinking of the new members and new Con Goers.

My reason is this: When new members post, they want to look at post counts to see who has more experince in this small forum and who is more well known. I know I did when i first joined this cozy little place on the internet (which is a series of tubes by the way).

Laughing out loud ^_^

Do you mean the Hall of Fame module?

I haven't yet installed the 4.7 version of it because I noticed with the last version that it doesn't just count forum posts -- it also counts pages on the site. And since I created the majority of the pages on the site, that artificially bumps me up to the top of the lists, and I do not feel very comfortable about that.

Maybe I can look into hacking on the module so that it excludes non-forum posts from the lists. Then they'll be more equal. Smiling

Post count should not be enabled for the specific reason of seeing one member of "higher class or standards" than another.

Karma systems for a while seemed a good idea, that was seperate to post count, but really, such a system would only be beneficial to ideas like support. It would be too easy to abuse.

I can see your point, but frankly, I do not think that the number of posts a person has made here is a very good indicator of how experienced or knowledgeable a person is.

I can think of a few examples of people with high post counts that...well, probably shouldn't.

Oh, no no no! There were some folks on the last version of our boards who had over a thousand posts, but who never said anything more than, "Yeah, that sounds cool to me, too!"

Gotta agree, I don't like post counts much, it either makes people start suffering from Bloaty Head Disease, or makes others feel like they can't contribute or what they do post isn't going to be taken seriously because of their low post count.
