I think that's a pretty rhetorical question. =^-^= I'd DM. =^-^= So, erm, how's this work? Do I recruit players here? Is there somewhere at the con that I can do this, or do I have to run it in my hotel room or something? @.@ I feel like such a fool 'cos I'm new to this and don't know anything, but I really wanna be out there and participating in stuff at this Con. ^^;; ...Oh, and I love DMing, can't forget that. =^-^= nothing like the look on a player's face when you kill 'em with their own stupidity, hehehehe... =^___^= |

The con includes a non-video gaming room for exactly that sort of thing.

I love to play D&D!
Oh, and Version 3.5? YAY! I just (okay, more of nearly a year and a half ago) spent over $250 on Version 3.5 books! Oh, and if its going to be over, say 6 people, would you like to have a helping hand? I have been the DM here (and i only have three to four people to play with at max right now) for the past year and a half. Want me to bring any of me books? Also, my furry friend Eillo is also coming and he to (more then likely) is going to want to play. He might even want to try his hand at being a DM again (he has only done it a few time, but he was amazing! So... Is there anyway i could help? Hehe ^_^

XD Well, let's see...
I have most of the books, so that shouldn't be a problem, but I've learned there can never be too many Player's handbooks at a table, or other such books in which people find their wacky classes. ^^ I've been DMing for... hmm, maybe 10 months, playing for about 8 years. I run a campaign every friday for (when everyone shows up) 10 people, so I'm not inexperienced in running a game for a large number of players. ^^ I plan to run a mid-level (3-7 or thereabouts) game, utilizing house-rules for anthro characters my buddy Serge Wolf made (To simplify it and do away with the ECL junk, no one likes being lower level than their buddies) in my own campaign setting based primarily off the Forgotten Realms sources (And pantheon, until I get around to creating more gods)
I'm not quite sure what you mean by a helping hand, but if you wanted to participate in any fashion y'all are definitely more than welcome to . =^-^=
If you'd prefer, go ahead and give me an IM, since it's a bit easier to talk on there...

I think restricting to core classes (PHB only) is the best way to run it, just because that way play doesn't have to stop as much to look up strange rules/abilities. Might not be able to play though as I'm showing a Canada fur around his first con! Anywho, my 2 cp worth.

Lmao, Cp.
But yea, I have to agree with Ver (if he doesn't mind me calling me that) on this one.

*grins* 'course I don't mind. Picked up that cp bit from D&D sites, hehe. But again, simple is the way to go, and if too many people want it, make a second or 3rd group with additional DMs. I don't think more then 10 can have a time-effective game.

Just an idea, but it'd probably be a good idea to send out the rules and such, campaign setting, etc., so we can get character sheets together -before- the con, bring 'em, and have them ready or needing minimal editing when we get to the game tables... it would make things a lot smoother in my opinion.
In other words, yeah, I play D&D, heh. I'll bring my dice pouch

Look at all these replies! I'm popular! XD
Seriously, though, as far as classes go I don't mind people playing unusual classes or prestige classes as long as they:
1. Do not involve psionics(They're sort of messy and I don't like dealing with them.)
-and-
2. If you're playing a class/prestige not in the PHB or DMG you must either bring the book in which the class is printed (no reproductions or copies) or get it Ok'd by me and I'll bring the book for you if I can.
... Actually, come to think of it, I'd like everyone to tell me what exactly they'll be playing beforehand once I've got this thing a bit more organized, so I can brush up on it. I have access to a good deal of the books.
If there's gonna be more people than I think I can handle (and it seems like there very well may be =^-^=), then anyone who wants to volunteer can DM, and if no one wants to I guess I'll have Serge Wolf help. ^^
I'll have the details up by the end of the week, I'm thinking, as well as information on the campaign setting.
(Oh, and having played 2e I'd have to dissagree that it's better than 3.5... THAC0 is lame, no matter what you say. ^^)

Dude!
Chicks dig a low THAC0!
I was intro'd to D&D with 2e. I was a Dwarven priest that worshiped a human god, and carried around an axe bigger than he was
Not a lot of DMs allow psionics... eh, it takes skill and patience to play 'em... as well as a DM to nerf some things

Bah 2e? I started with 1e, got the first D&D basic manual, and its older them me =P. Played 1e for a long time, thats creative roleplay. But I like 3.5 lots.
If you don't like psi now, I should show you the psi from 1e *shudders* about 4-6 pages or so describing it. Ah here we go, PHB AD&D 1e, published 1980. Psionics was 7 pages in total. Had to roll 100% to have them, and for each point of INT over 16 you got a +2.5 on the roll, point of WIS over 16 + 1.5, and point of CHA over 16 +0.5. Ahh, those were the days. =P
THAC0 for the win!

Hey, I started in 2 myself. First character was a Half-Elf archer I still dust off once and a blue moon, and other great characters like the Gladiatoresque fighter and the Wolfwere priest of Osiris gave me a lot of great memories. ^^ 2e was a lot of fun, don't get me wrong... I just think 3.5 is the way to go.

permalinkNever tried it, I'm more of a Warhammer 40k kinda guy (Go Tyranids! Swarm the Enemy! Rawr!!!).
What is it like? I'm visual spacial, and like material objects to work with, or even pictures, but what's it like witt just words and dice?

Ohhh 40k too, now if only all these gaming furs lived NEAR ME!!!
And yeah, D&D is lots of words and dice. Dpending on your DM (Dungeon Master) of course. Like I like to DMV with lots of maps, and a grid and figures if possible, although never had enough figures to do that. But its lots of vocal RPing. Very fun!

I, on the other hand, don't like using figures and maps unless it's necessary because it tends to bog down the game a bit...
Though if any player has a confusion, I'll be happy to draw out the situation for 'em. A lot of people appreciate visuals, and it's a mistake to deny their helpfulness when DMing.

I enjoy using maps and such, they help make things easier for the PCs to locate monsters and such.
Also, I have several of the 2e books and have read some of them, and its not as good as either 1e or 3.5e
Both are much more refined then 2e in my opinion.

I made this really sweet dicerolling program in visual basic. =^-^= It's so much fun. It does all the dice, plus percentiles, fireballs and 2ndE character stat generation ( I haven't figured out how to program 4d6 drop the lowest yet ^^;)

Nooo! T-T Don't overrun my poor Tau...
=^-^= Well, it's good because there is a lot of room for improvisation and imaginativity(Is that a word? Well, now it is.); But the downside is it takes a kind of focus and if you're not 'into' it you won't enjoy it. Generally it relies on good visualization skills of the player, and most importantly a DM who can convey his image to the players well enough to be understood. (There is no end to the issues a simple bit of miscommunication or misunderstanding can cause in a game of D&D) If you wanna try it out, the best way would be to find a group near your home and play it for yourself... *nods* Experience is the best teacher you can get.

And I think if you wanna play D&D there's no good reason not to. If you want to, then do.

Actually, I've been thinking of installing this module, which can be used to split comments out into their own forum posts.
Give me a day or two to check out that module, and if it meets our needs, I'll install it and move that comment out so you don't have to re-type everything.

I actually run a furry campaign once a week at my college ^_^. I would be glad to DM a group if we get too many, and i have a ton of books for use. If anyone would like to take a gander at my furry world, send me an email (andres_cyanni(at)hotmail(dot)com). I have 9 custom furry races as well (hoping to publish my own campaign soon). THAT should get people interested

Heh, that's kinda funny... I've been thinking about doing my campaign setting up to be published. =^-^= I've just been dragging my feet on the pantheon and the geography(especially the geography) It's just so tedious... @.@ I've done a lot of work on it, especially the history, and it wouldn't be too hard to put everything together.
