During Uncle Kage's and 2's charity thing, They had suggested videos of these sock puppets, saying that the performances were 'years' ahead of their time. If I remember correctly, they said you could even actually see the sock puppets lips form the words. 0.o However, I can not remember the name and was wondering if someone could fill me in? |

That would be Nonsanity Cat
http://.fluffandsuch.com/
He uses "soft pallet" puppets, those with soft mouths rather than a hard pallet, those with flat and stiff insides of their mouths. Then he removes much of the stuffing from their muzzles and connects each finger individually to the inside of the puppet's mouth.
That allows his characters, (with great study and practice on his part), to form certain consonant and vowel shapes like a flesh and blood person. So you can "read the puppet's lips".

(although a lot of Jim Henson's early work and "early" Kermit were soft pallet puppets)
It's not that Nonsanity is years ahead, it's just that he puts the time and effort into his works that professional puppeteers cannot afford to. In the commercial marketplace that effort is rarely appreciated.
