I'm surprised I have not seen a question similar to this yet, but then again I haven't looked that much, so it could be there But my question is, if you could do with out a certain panel at AC, what would it be? I don't know for me. |

The "New to Conventions?" panel... but that's because I've been going to cons for over thirty years.
Every panel has an intended audience. If I'm not a part of that audience, so what? Somebody else is, and was willing to go through the process of suggesting it and setting up the participants. The only panels I feel could be dropped would be any that get no attendees. I truly doubt that that happens in the real world.

We do occasionally have panels that are very poorly attended. That is a sure sign to us not to schedule a panel like that in the future.

The Intermediate 3-D art panel was very poorly attended. I will not offer it again. I had maybe a total of 10 wander through it at some point. I never had more than 2 people there at once. More than half thought it was on 3-D rendering with computers. (the description of panel made it clear it was for sculpting, woodworking, etc, not computers, but lots of people looked only at the panel name on the pocket schedule).
None of the people who said "I don't want a beginner panel, I want an intermediate panel!" on forums before con showed up for the intermediate panel.
I had 20+ for the beginning Sculpture panel however, so I'll probably do that again. Attendance was up from previous year. Giving me less time to speak increases attendance, yeah! (and also cuts down on me rambling...)
I was full up on the Rage CCG panels I did in game room. I hit near max I could handle on both days it was offered. I ended up having an assistant run a second game one of the days.

Well all the panels I went to were great, and the people running them really made them all the better. (kudos especially to the people who ran the writing panels)
If anything, I'd suggest that the Weapons panel gets doubled, extended, or something along those lines. A fit bald man in a tight chinese dress talking in detail about scifi weapons is somehow one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a long time...

Weapons panel should be extended and i found it to be informative, yet at the same time entertaining.
P.S:Careful,he might know Chung Li's moves, that's the secret weapon, lol.
The secret is in you.....

permalinkThe surest way to guarantee that a panel is continued or extended is to attend it. Also, find people who feel the same way and have knowledge of the subject and get them to lead panels of their own. You can't expect 2 or 3 people to moderate 10 hours of panels by themselves.
As Kage said above, low attendance panels are often not rescheduled. This has an unmentioned counterpoint: high-attendance panels are usually rescheduled and, all other things being equal, may be extended where possible.
