Yo. I was going through some old emails and came across my AC membership confirmation. I absolutely forgot about the con coming up. So, I thought I should check in and let my pressence be known before I forget again.

I really, really would like to attend the con but I just feel very uneasy making plans so far ahead. This is especially so with plans on sharing a room with another conner. A lot of things can happen between now and then, but meh, here's hoping for the best. Well, since I do wish to go, and since it will be my first time, should I hold out until the "meeting at the con" and "room share" forums are up? Or should I at least sign up for the con and hold out on the hotel?

Its never too early to start looking and/or asking around. It gives you time to plan ahead and have a backup or two if need be. Anyway though, welcome aboard Smiling

Start making friends now.
Even if none of them end up being roomies, they all know someone who knows someone.
If any of them end up being roomies, now you have extra months to get to know each other. Rooming with total strangers blows.

Hey homie. I'm fresh to the con world myself. AC07 is going to be my first con ever. I too have similar apprehensions as you. But I've looked forward to this for far too long now to bail out. Hey, if you're looking for room share buddies or anything, I'm on the market. I don't know any furs around where I live, so I'm not going with anyone, and those hotel rooms can be mighty expensive if I'm buying it all on my lonesome. So give me a buzz sometime, if you're at all interested.

We will have a roomshare board open in a few months.

Why not now? I have been in this business a long time, and I have come up with what I call the "four-ten hypothesis": For every four weeks (28 days) ahead of the convention, the probability that you or someone you intend to room with will change travel plans (such as decide to room with someone else, decide to arrive later, not be able to attend, etc.) goes up by 10%.

Thus, one month before the convention, there is a 10% change that one or more people in your room will drop out for some reason for one or more days. If you make your rooming arrangements in the middle of April, you have a 30% change of losing one or more roommates. If you try to make arrangements now, you have a 70% change of getting your plans screwed up.

That is why we do not open the roomshare board until at least mid-February, when there's statistically a 50% chance that someone in your group will drop out before the con. That is why I plead with people until I'm blue in the face to HAVE A CONTINGENCY PLAN.

But do they listen? Nooooo. No one listen to Kage....

We are all just a little over excited about the convention Laughing out loud

Fortunately for me, I know for a fact I'll be going by myself

ya i feel the same way, and i'll probably end up going alone as well. tho it would be nice if i could find a fellow fur that lives by me and i knew could go, but sadly i dont anyfur that is going, or has the $$$ to go.

Oh, forgot to mention, I'm on Vent (2.3 and 2.14) a lot.

Vent is a VoIP (voice over IP) program, so a microphone is useful (but not required).
