Anthrocon 2016 Charity: Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium
Anthrocon has selected the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium to be our beneficiary for 2016. The Pittsburgh Zoo strives to foster positive, lifelong connections between animals and people through exhibits, educational programs, and their many conservation projects. Their goal is to make certain the Earth remains a suitable home for all life by fostering discovery of the interconnectedness of the natural world. They will be at the Charity Auction and will have a table in the Dealers' Room where you can meet them and peruse information about their organization.
More information about the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium can be found at their website, pittsburghzoo.org. If you have any questions regarding the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, they can be reached through their representative to us, Jaime Szoszorek, via jszoszorek[at]pittsburghzoo.org or by the Zoo's main line, 412-665-3640.
*ponders how far the zoo is from the con*
maybe 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. i love the zoo *swoon*
SWEET! I like this choice very much.
(Psst, and I think you mean "2016" in the title there.)
In any event, I do think it a worthy charity.....now I wonder if I will like the art, or have to donate directly
Arabian, you may not have been to Anthrocon before. The auction/raffle has many things available: artwork, toys, other things furry related.
Yet another wonderful charity.. shame i rarely have time during the con to actually go to the Zoo though
I know its a long shot, but maybe they'll bring a red panda with them, just one of my fav aniamls to see at our own zoo(Bronxzoo is a bit bigger) but getting close up to such wonderful animals..well.. okay..thats just my own two cents.
What a wonderful choice! I'm so excited to know that we're supporting them this year.
I actually worked at the zoo last summer. Coworkers learned I was a furry and said that they love Anthrocon. So its awesome to see the zoo be the charity this year :3
Bur what an awesome choice! I'm excited to see how much we'll get them this year~
Been there a few times and it's great. Fortunately when I visit the Con I fly and rent a car (and have time before and after the Con), or take a separate trip and
drive the whole way; from the Con, it's about 5 to 7 miles depending on your route. There are buses, see below for link. It's not far from the Allegheny river--from the Con you
would head up through Lawrenceville etc into Highland Park.
Public transit from Con: cost $3.50--maybe more or less...
I think the fare was $2.50 each way last year. The routes changed from the year before, so one should double check the stops to avoid being stranded.
Hell yes! Been voying for this on the suggestion board every year, so so so happy to see it picked this year! Last year my friends and I went to the zoo on the Wed before the con. Do you think they'll be offering a special visit price or something for AC attendees this year, cause if so I wanna go back Wed before the con again
So going to be shoveling money in the donation buckets this year haha.
The location is 5.7 miles northeast of the David L Lawrence Convention Center south side of the Allegheny River goin by Butler Street.
You also can cross the 9th Street bridge west of the DLLCC and take PA-28 then cross the river again on Highland Park Bridge which is 7.8 miles but can be faster depending on traffic.

I so need to have sharky do the bucket collection for them !!
You mean the chum-bucket collection? Eeyup, this one is made for you!
Now I just got my paws on another Fursuit that would be perfect for this as well.
Spectacled Bear Fulllsuit by The Critter Factory...
WOW... Very cool
I think we may have to schedule a furry venture to the zoo
this would be fun! I love the zoo!
I like the idea behind the Zoo and aquarium, I can get behind this. PENGUINS
AHHH!! YUSH YUSH PENGUINS!!! I LOVE PENGUINS :3
yes penguins are awesome :3 i get a little overexcited when they become mentioned
Woo, Pittsburgh Zoo! I wonder if they'll bring an animal like the National Aviary did. Hope it's a cheetah... :3
Ohh aquarium..almost forgot about that..maybe...OTTERS...yes..an adorable fish nomming otter would be a great thing to see as well......
EXCUSE ME ?? A FISH EATING OTTER ??

It's a bit soon, but does anyone know how did the charity do so far this year?
In prior years, Rigel has announced a amount at Closing Ceremonies... which hasn't occurred yet (3:20 PM, 7/3/16).
I know, but sometimes there are unconfirmed rumors beforehand. In any case, I'm interested to see it.
