I recently told my parents i am a furry. They took it quite well and agreed to let me go to AnthroCon 2009. II was a bit apprehensive about telling them at first, but i am glad i did. You will be most definatly seeing me there! ^^

Congratulations.

Your experience sounds like mine, though I don't think my mom knew exactly what I was going to when I said I wanted to go. Though I did show her the video I put together which is in my sig, and she seemed lightly interested.

She didn't have any objections to me going in 2009 though, so it's all good. Laughing out loud

First of all - you seem to have a positive outcome, and all in all, that is best for all concerned. Congratulations!

But the more I see of such posts similar to yours, I wonder: What is it that folks are telling their parents? What did the parents think "being a furry" meant before your revelation, and what do they think it means now?

If I may ask - what was it that you told your parents, precisely - and how did you approach them with this subject?

I ask because I wonder if other people see the issue in the same way that I see it - and I suspect that there is a substantial difference in that understanding. Feel free to ignore the question, if it seems personal or intrusive - but I should really like to know.

Awesome! Glad that you'll be able to join us? Will your parents be coming as well? Our own chairman brings his parents to Anthrocon every year, and they have a ball!

I might make a suggestion. Stop by the "This is your first con" panel. It's a lot of fun and will give you some helpful tips to make the most out of the weekend.
