I was thinking to myself, using the anthrocon forums is not really a good if you just want info on building a suit. Would it not be better to have a dedicated forum for furry art, anthro and fursuiting etc.

A good off the shelf program is invision power board. we use it for airsoft ireland and it rocks.

i do not mind putting a fair amount of blood and sweat into administrating it but i would need partners to help spread the costs and in running the forum.

anybody want to help

remember if you do this and once you pay you kind of dedicated although it is not a full time job, just requiring a little time when your free.

benefits included respect from the furry community and maybe starring roles i cons etc.

i want this to be a success and so may others

Well, if you're looking for a set of forums /just/ about fursuiting, they already exist. Just type "fursuiting forum" into Google and you'll get dozens of matches.

I'm just sayin'.

*NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT*

Why not just use www.Proboards.com? They let you have your own board, have fun with the HTML, textures, and so on. And its Free!

*THE "NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT!" IS OVER!*

But really, if you want a board dedicated to fursuiting, furry art, and the such (but you don't want to run it), just do like Giza said and type "fursuiting forum" in at Google. But if you DO... then just use proboards.

Edit: Haha, there was a comma in my HTML : P

concerning proboards i dunno it doesnt look as great as invision powerboards and you have much greater freedom to edit and change everything.

And my reply to that is what CAN'T you edit in Proboards?

I have one myself and i havn't seen a single thing i can't, well, besides get rid of the ads at the top and bottom, but who cares? No one really notices those any who!

soz i didnt really explain it fully, invision basically allows you to do anything and everything, once you have licence you can do what ever you want.

does proboards have unlimited topics? the website doesnt really describe the features properly. besides i would rather have a pure dedicated forum, one that isnt shared with other forums. one that is owned by myself and a few others, with a dedicated web address.

this really could turn into something great, with a little discussion, seeing what people want to include, what should be allowed and what should not be allowed. do people want their own packs (groups), forums for each con around the world. do they want a gallery with unlimited space, user accounts with age restrictions.

an idea for layouts

Topic area:

Furry art
-oekakis
-fantasy
-historical
-cartoons
-adult
-artists
Fursuit
-construction
-retailers
-etc
-etc

Lets see... Unlimited topics, unlimited posts, unlimited members, you can have any topic BUT adult, although most people don't really care so no worry there, you can edit all of the images and use your own, you can impliment codes into boards, you can have your own background, and the list just goes on and on.

Having built and administrated over a dozen forums now, I figured I'd chip in on this one.

Proboards is a nice site, but its usefulness is fairly limited. It has several shortcomings that make it an unsavoury solution for any serious site, including:

-Lack of direct access to the database, preventing backups from being made, and also limiting the abilities of the administrators should something need to be changed at that level

-Lack of direct code access, preventing custom themes (ie, something not available through them) and custom modifications. This also prevents a Proboards site from being integrated at all with another website

-Free service with a rather restrictive TOS agreement. As witnessed by several furry sub-communities who've used services like Yahoo Groups, this is just begging for disaster. If anyone on your site breaks a Proboards rule, or is even accused of such, your site disappears without a trace, and with no recourse.

Proboards serves its purpose well, which is to provide an easy and cheap hosting option for small private groups, low-budget individuals, and just-for-fun forums. However, for a serious website, I would never seriously recommend using Proboards. If the OP wants to set up a real fursuit discussion community and he intends to attract visitors from the general furry public, I highly recommend that he get a paid web hosting account somewhere (no server-in-the-basement, unless you happen to have a T1 or better in your basement) and set up the forum platform of his choice.

no this is not just for fursuiters, its for everything to do with furry fandom, EVERYTHING. if you have or want a group to form in your area you can have your own little forum within the bigger picture, if your an artist, forming a mini howl, convention etc selling stuff, offering services it will accomondate you. i cant explain it all, check

www.airsoftireland.com/forums

this will give a better picture of what you can do with it.

ill start to design a forum layout etc now. during the summer i may buy a licence and any software needed, bandwidth etc then i will post the website up. anybody will be welcome to join, become moderators although becoming supermoderators/administrators may require some negotiating.

furtopia has a great one although it really seems to be just american based.

i may just experiment with the proboards tnight just to see what its like.

Just a heads up, I moved this discussion over to the (just created) Offtopic forum. The reason for the move is that the discussion isn't relavent to Anthrocon itself, but I think it is an interesting discussion.

Happy posting. Smiling

So, with this in mind, each topic in this forum should maintain at least a level of interest: not containing anything useless like posting games or jabber.

For instance, if I had ideas on an Anthrocon Podcast, would this be the forum for it?

I would guess that General would be a better place for that because this board (yes this is called a board) seems to be more of a 'any thing about the furry fandom with intrest' board.

Kind of offtopic:
How would one have a AC podcast? Would it consist of vids from Ac (we have Youtube for that! Sticking out tongue) or would it be yours and others coments on that years AC?

each general topic or area eg fursuiting, music, art has many different internal tiers. but like say furtopia (example)you are able to put stuff in that general area.

link to ASI (just to give an example of what i mean) i used to use ASI but i left now and it is a very well maintained and setup forum. just look around and play with stuff.

http://www.airsoftireland.com/forums/index.php?s=018f6d98fa89a55c8bccdb1b8fdb72ab&showforum=36

for genral use yes i tmay i good idea for am anthrocon podcast but dont forget about the other forums Eye-wink they may like it aswell. but i have decided to put my efforts towards furry support instead for concerned parents, friends relatives and ofcourse furries after what i went through only a couple of days ago, the forum idea for europe will be put on hold until i get enough money and time.
