I go by Mykell on XBL. Lately the only game I've been playing is Super Street Fighter II Turbo HDR and Street Fighter IV. Don't really play FPS's on consoles anymore, I save them for the PC.

i dont think he is ashamed i feel hes in a situation quite like mine. where if he told his parents and family they would throw him in a mental institution like my family has actually said they would when i tried telling them 
Trust me, I know the feeling, I REALLY do understand. But I am sure your parents love you, and would not send you to a mental institution, because you like cartoons, or movies that have anthropomorphic animals, and if they feel you are in need of mental help you are in good company, there are some very smart and accomplished people in the fandom. If you treat the fandom as such a large part of your life, as I do. How can you not share with your parents, when you sit down to eat(yes my family still dose that) what do you talk about, if you never talk about something that you have such a large interest in, what do you talk about. Not so long ago I talked with my mom about being a furry for the first time, and it feels good, now I can talk about this thing that is such a part of my life with my family. The odds are that your parents will not even know what a furry is, and if they happen to be big CSI fans, then just don't use the word furry, call it a anthropomorphic fan club or something, talk about the cartoons, and the charity work. Tell them about all the people that are teens that are in the group. What I found worked very well was to talk about it in the car, on a long trip. That means that they will have nothing better to do then talk to you, and they can go anywhere. I could give you a long list of tips, but I am going to fall asleep at my computer if I stay awake one second longer, I STRONGLY recommend wachting Dr. Samuel Conway presenting the furry fandom to the public, he has some really good, DOs and DONTs. As well as that you can email me and I will be more then happy to try and help, or for that matter, I would be more then willing to talk to your mom, if that could help, maybe by her talking to someone who is close at age, she would understand better(also I would talk to your dad also)

i know you mean well but they view the fandom on par to satanism and really would disown me if they ever found out. and just for the record the fandom is a huge part of my life as well and im very proud to be a furry.
Well I am sure your parents Love you very much, and will continue to love you no matter what, that being said if you do not want to share that you are a furry with your parents then that is between you and them, so I just hope it all works out for you. I will just leave you with this last note no matter how bad you think it will be it never is. Let me give you an example, one of my best friends that I have known almost all my life is homosexual, well he had no problem telling me that because he knew that I could care less(I think it was harder for me to tell him that I was a furry, then it was for him to tell me that he is homosexual), but when it came to telling his parents that, he felt that it would destroy his relationship with them, so maybe a year after he told me, he knew that he had to tell his parents sooner or later, because it was eating him up, every time he was with his parents he felt out of place, like he had to pretend he was something that he is not, so he told them. Did they approve of it, well no, but they wanted him to be happy, and they were more hurt by the fact that he did not tell them, but kept it hidden for so long. SO that being said, I have to think that on a scale of things that parents would not approve of, being a homosexual is worse then being a furry, but his parents still love him, even if it can get weird around the holidays.....I hope he dose not get mad at me for saying this, but for that matter I did not use his name, so unless you know me in person, you have no Idea who I am talking about.

look, its nothing to be afraid of. if your parrents dont like the fact that you are a furry, who cares. your parrents can dis own you, they can make fun of you, they can try to get rid of you, but they can never have your spirit. just be glad for what you are. know who you are and enjoy being what you are. im baptist, and i am a furry too. (oops if your not christian lol.) all that matters is that god loves you and he will never stop loving you.

I'd be surprised if that went far. Typically, psychological wards are reserved for people who are mentally ill to the point where they place themselves or others in physical danger.
Trying to get a perfectly sane person committed would probably earn the parents in question a stern lecture from the doctors.
Can i guess? Your proud of who you are, but you dont know how your brother will react right? Story time! Before i knew what a furry was, I thought i had some sort of mental disorder, (what kind of freak likes animal people hugging on eachother right?) I was actually fighting my furry side for the longest time, locked that part of me up and tried to ignore and reject it... I felt hallow, empty because of this. Years later, i got sick of fighting so i decided to learn what the hell i was. My personal research revealed that what i had was not a mental disorder but a fandom. And that there were others like me, (obviously) and this is perfectly ok and acceptable. Theres nothing wrong with this i learned, and i became proud of what i am. But then, i had to explain this to my parents. We were close but this wasnt normal so i was scared. Turns out they were ok with this. Not only that, they want to learn more about it. So i guess the moral of the story, If your close with your family, and you explain what it is, they will understand. If not, well you have furry friends online. and at conventions. And XBL (thanks for the friend request by the way!) we have your back. i'll help anyway i can too. 
There are some parents (or other family members) that might not take the news well. It is just one of those things that he "forgets" to tell them about.
I have to agree with Uncle Kage, there is nothing to be ashamed of, and as far as talking to your parents about it, you can do what I did, don't use the word furry, use anthropomorphic, To my mom I say I am a fan of anthropomorphic cartoons, movies, comics, ect, then give an example like bugs bunny(something that was from her age) or spongbob(ya I know don't say it), I find that this gives you a 'clean' start, and keeps the topic off of CIS, or a day time talk show(banks) who I know for a fact that my sister/mom watch, ya that one hurt, that is not to say that if someone asked me if I am a furry I would say no. If my mom would ever ask are you a furry I would say yes. It is better to tell your parents and then have them not approve of it, then hide it from them for the rest of your life, or until you are 18. Well dude when I was a kid I used to play this game on my n64 called Castlevania Legacy of Darkness, google image search Cornell from that game, well when I saw his wolfman form I kinda wished all humans were like that, and I had no earthly idea what the he'll anthro or furry is. So you can kinda say I'm not exactly a fur but I have respect for it. I've lived the life of a young musician so far but I have never had a problem with wanting to tell people bout what I believe in. It's not their business, even your parents, in my opinion, yes they have an impact on who you are but in the end who you will become is ultimately up to yourself and if you believe in your dreams then your no different than John Lenon. If you see what im saying. If I were you, I would probably just leave it up to your parents to ask you about it sometime, and if they never do then theyell never know, who we are in our head ad who we represent ourselves to be infront of other sentient beings are two completely different people, same thing with music. Thom yorkes music is mostly sad but he's funny and a happy guy usually. In all honesty I don't mean to give you bad advice but I mean if you need to open up to someone I mean nobodys gonna be a dick to ya here.

wrong. i have like 20 furrs on my fl now, and i am adding 43 others. my brother can access my gamertag when ever, and frankly, 43 furry gamertags and 20 furry gamertags already accepted would most likely get my brother to think the following:
1. is my brother a furry?
2. is my brother wierd?
3. is my brother a major animal lover?(this i dont care about.)
4. is my brother a major beastiality person?
If your brother doesn't know what a furry is, then that will not be what he suspects. Also, don't let him access your account. Change the password or require a password to be put in on every sign-in.
ok, i have had some bad experiences with the pass for live, because i added a pass for my old acc, and it got hacked, so when the person tried to get on, he/she couldnt, changed the pass, and deleted the acc. ill just change the pass on my acc, then move it to a memory card, so when ever its not in use, i will just take out the memory card and take it with me where ever i go.
note to any furrs on my friends list, i am going to just go ahead and wipe my friends list out, then restart it, first adding the furries, then adding my real friends, then adding community members.
(note i have like 74 furries that gave me their gamertags.
