Looking for Game, Tournament, and Demo Hosts for Anthrocon 2009!
Hello Furry gamers and Happy New Year!
Do you enjoy running Table Top RPG's or boxed games? Are you an avid CCG Player experienced in or wanting to try to host a game or limited tournament? Perhaps you're an active LARP'er and would like to try your paw at hosting a one off LARP? Maybe you've got a crate full of mini's and want to set up the opportunity to play with others?
Are you attending Anthrocon this year?
Then I'm looking for YOU!
I'm Swift Fox and I'm heading up the Table-top Gaming Track for Anthrocon 2009. Anthrocon is the world's largest convention for those fascinated with anthropomorphics, which are humanlike animal characters. We are a collection of artists, animators, writers, costumers, puppeteers, and just everyday fans who enjoy cartoon animals and their kin. This Summer we will convene at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA, from July 2-5, 2009 for workshops, panel discussions, an art exhibition and a dealer room, and much more! Our theme for 2009 is "OMG Aliens!"
Right now I'm looking for furs who want to share their talent, imagination and skills as game or tournament hosts for their favorite table top role playing game, board game, CCG, miniatures game or LARP. Games need not be furry themed. We've had folks run "Paranoia," "Apples to Apples," "Settlers of Catan," "Magic; the Gathering," and even "Warhammer" at cons before. If you want to step up and host it, we'll give you the time you need and promote it by putting it on the schedule so others can see it.
If you are interested in hosting a game, tournament or demo at Anthrocon 2009; If you know someone who'd be perfect that I should contact; I encourage you to touch base with me at foxesden AT hotmail.com if you have questions, suggestions or just want to open a dialog with me.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Not a CCG, but what about having a play money Poker/blackjack table/tournament?
We could use either play money or the standard red, white, and blue poker chips. Each player interested starts in with oh say $3,000 in play money/chips.
I'd be willing to have a crack at hoasting it if you think that would be okay.
Hello Kelix,
Thank you for your suggestion. However, games of chance and gambling, even if no money changes hands, have been identified by Anthrocon as something not related to the nature or atmosphere of the fandom. They have been very clear with me that Anthrocon would prefer these, and similar games or activities, not occur within convention spaces.
I regret having to shoot down your proposal. Do you have any other ideas we might consider?

Lame. :/
Well if all my best yugioh cards hadn't been stolen about a year ago I'd definitely go for that but as it stands I'd just make a fool outta myself.
Though I do have one other idea. I can get ahold of a whole bunch of Digimon Trading card game starter decks really cheap and have demos of that.
A set of Digimon CCG demos would be a fine addition to the track schedule. I know I have a few furs working on a M:tG Tourney and I had another fur voice interest in setting up open games of Yu-gi-oh, but no one has mentioned Digimon yet.
Drop me an e-mail at foxesden AT hotmail.com and I'll forward you a Gaming Event Form to fill out so we can get you scheduled in and in the program guide.
Thank you,

I'll run my usual demo and tournament of Rage as I've done for last 4 years. Info on Rgae:
http://www.rainydaypaperback.com/home/rage.html
I'll also add in suggestion here (since not everybody reads the LJ) that there be a table in the game room with a jigsaw puzzle set up. FurFright has had these for two years and they're very popular. It gives folks something relaxing to do for 5-10 minutes while waiting for another game to start of finish.
Ask a local to be in charge of obtaining some jigsaw puzzles. They can probably scoop several up at tagsales or off craigslist before con for less than $5.
If you need any representatives of the video game industry to host anything, drop me a line. I've worked as a programmer for three and a half years now. My credits include:
EA Tiburon:
Superman Returns: The Videogame (X360/PS2/XB)
NCAA Football 2008 (X360/PS3)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 (X360/PS3)
Vicarious Visions:
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Wii)
Guitar Hero: World Tour (Wii)

How about halo 3?We face off in team slayer then slayer to find the ultimate champion. Just an idea of course
A very noobish question here, but is there a specific time frame for these events. Is this like a 1-2 hour typical panel slot, or the stay there all day kind of thing?
In my experience, panels earlier than 10am don't get much turn-out at furry cons. So I'd say the daily hours of operation will be from 10am until 1-2am Friday and Saturday and from 10am until closing ceremonies on Sunday.
Game lengths vary.
If you're running a CCG, card game, demo or board game, you might only need an hour or two.
If you're hosting a table top RPG you'll need around 4 hours.
If you're running a tournament game or a LARP, you might need 4 hours, maybe more.
It all really depends on the game you bring to share, but I don't expect anyone to spend more than, at the extreme, 6 hours at any one time, hosting a session. I encourage folks to sign up their game on at least two days to give folks a chance to work one session into their AC schedule. It's a furry con, where gaming is a side interest, not a full out gaming con.
Did that answer your question?
BTW...Do you hang out with my buds Stitch and Sune up there in London, ON?? Give them a warm hug and a hello next time you see them if you do.

Thank you, that fully answers my question. I've been to multiple cons and the gaming is always set up differently. Yes I do hang out with Stitch and Sune every monday
I'll be sure to pass on your message.
I'm curious to hear about your experiences with the way gaming is set up at other cons you've been to. I'm certainly not set in my ways here and might actually pluck a better idea out of what you're able to share.

You may want to talk to Spotweld, the director of FurFright's gaming and videogame tracks. He does 24 hour programming, so there's open gaming all through the night. There's also several different tournaments. The Men in Black (Steve Jackson Game's Demo Team) show up.
There's actually more gaming at FurFright than many small, regional GAMING cons. He's also usually doing stuff for ConnCon which is a general interest gaming/anime/furry/fandom con. It is very well run, all the events are well attended. (the 10PM werewolves of Millers Hollow actually hit 30 players!) You can see FurFright's schedule from last year here: http://www.furfright.org/ff2008schedule.pdf You can get ahold of him through the FurFright e-mail:

The LARP chess I've been running at anthrocon has been a hit and I've got all kinds of cool new things for the latest incarnation. I used the suggest-a-panel form like previous years but nobody's gotten back to me. I think you're the guy to talk to about this?
Also on unrelated note I was thinking of running some self-made dungeon crawls (keeping "furry" and "sci fi" in mind), should this be printed or would I have enough luck finding suckers on my own?
Hello Ardy and thanks for your inquiries.
The "LARP Chess"...is that like "Human Chess" that we might see at a ren-faire or something? I think we had something like that on the schedule at AC last year and it went over very well.
Self made dungeon crawls are always perfect fare at conventions and I have room on the schedule to squeeze you in if you're interested. A little advertising in the programming guide goes a long way.
If you would please drop me an e-mail at foxesden AT hotmail DOT com I'll forward to you the AC Gaming Event Form. Please fill it out, get it back to me and then I can fit you into the room. The completed form for "LARP Chess" I will have to forward to Programming as that is something they will want to make space for in either the convention center common spaces or over in the hotel.
Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I'm interested in running a World of Warcraft Miniatures demo, but I'd like to know if there is enough interest for it before I hauled my collection with me. Onyxia won't be out by the time AC comes around, but the expansion set will have been out for a little while at least.
I'd mostly be bringing a demo team to teach new people how to play, but I'll have a map or two and a constructed team on hand just in case.
I'm interested in a slew of other games of the CCG and minis variety, but I expect to be kept rather busy with other stuff while I'm there. I may bring an item or two to contribute to the gaming hoard though
.
Hello Delphi!
I'm not sure how much of a draw a World of Warcraft Miniatures game will draw, but game demonstrations tend to have better luck drawing forth the curious and the experienced WoW Mini gamer.
Plus, by hosting Demo's you can bring a smaller supply of minis and aren't obligated to a multi-hour game. A one or two hour demo allows other con attendees to schedule in time to be at your event and it doesn't tie you up, even if you offered a demo over multiple days.
If you're still interested, I'd ask you to draft an e-mail to me at foxesden AT hotmail DOT com. I will forward to you a copy of the AC Gaming Event form. Fill it out, send it back to me and I'll get you in on the schedule.
Thank you for your interest! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
