Anyone know anything on if more room blocks might be able to added for stays to be extended?
[I know, this is probably quite last minute to be booking a room...]
At least by what I see to the left, there are still FIVE hotels with rooms available for the convention. There probably won't be any block expansion until all room blocks are full... and there CAN'T be any expansion at the Westin since ALL rooms are taken.
If you're asking whether an existing reservation can be extended for additional days, contact VisitPittsburgh, the clearinghouse for hotel reservations.
Last we were told, the Westin, Courtyard and Hampton Inn were all full.
The Renaissance was full for Sunday, but not for other days
(those leaving early won't mind.)
That leaves the following hotels with rooms left, last we heard:
The Omni William Penn
The Doubletree Pittsburgh City Center
The Marriott City Center
The Wyndham Grand Hotel Pittsburgh
(and the Renaissance not counting Sunday)
For anyone who wants a room in any of those hotels, it is still available
to use the reservation system in place to reserve a room-
subject to availability of room type and so on.
Just throwing this out there in case anyone needs it-
I recently booked our hotel at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. Its 0.1 miles from the Hampton, just on the other side of the highway. 10 minute/half mile walk to the convention center, like the doubletree.
I haven't seen it mentioned on here and I think that may be because it's relatively new (3-4 months). It might be a good option for someone booking last minute if other hotels fill up?
They are a bit new, and aren't' currently one of our Partner hotels; so there's no block discount. Do let us know if it's a pleasant stay, and mention that Anthrocon and VisitPittsburgh may be interested in partnering with them!
It's highly unlikely the other hotels will "fill up."
There's been extra rooms when the blocks were closed for reservations,
at least the last few years if not longer.
AC depends upon the attendees filling the blocks, so it's in all our
interest to guide people TO the convention hotels, not FROM them.
So, please focus on filling the blocks.
That having been said, this hotel may come in handy for those people
who wake up a week before AC and decide they want to attend but
the hotel blocks are closed. (There's always someone looking for
space at the last minute, some may want a room.)
Also, this hotel would be worth discussing for NEXT AC. If it's only
a few months old, it wasn't around when room blocks were being
arranged. Perhaps this would be a viable choice to add rooms to for
next year. Or perhaps not- this would have to be looked into,
preferably once the current AC has ended and everyone's caught up on
their sleep and their lives.
So, maybe bring this up again in August.
I’m very sorry, this is my first year attending and I was not aware booking worked like that- I will definitely make sure I stay in a convention partner hotel next year to help fill the blocks. We only chose that one because we are booking through Hilton points. I apologize for any confusion my post may have caused and I can delete it if needed- I do not want to drive people from convention hotels.
It's okay. We encourage people to stay with our partner hotels, but it is not a requirement, and certainly a points-based booking is worth it, if you can get a deal. No worries.
From the time you arrive at that hotel to the time you leave,
please do your best to be observant and not any details of the hotel you can.
If we are to consider adding this hotel to the block next year,
we'd like as much information from anyone who has stayed there as we can get.
