As most folks are aware, Anthrocon allows you to to pre-register for the the convention. We do highly encourage it, as it results in not only a quicker registration experience for you, but it's available at a discount. Currently, the price for an Attending Membership is only $40; but that only lasts until January 31st! Soon, the price will go up to $45, which is still a savings over the at-the-door price of $50. You can also register as a Sponsor or Supersponsor, of course.

The online registration page is at http://www.anthrocon.org/registration , or conveniently from the 'Registration' tab to the left of this page. Remember, the Attending price goes up rather soon from that $40, so why not register now?

It doesn't effect me - I usually pre-register as a Supersponsor, and throw in a smidgen extra - but then, I also hold off on sending in my cheque and registration form, until about 2 months before the convention, or after all the loose (and expensive) details have been dealt with.

But I feel that I should Ask - is there any benefit to AnthroCon if I (or any one else) were to register earlier in the year? And if there is a benefit for AnthroCon...when would be the best time to pre-register?

Again - that is, when would best benefit AnthroCon, as opposed to myself?

There is most certainly a benefit. We tend to pay the big bills as the money comes in, and it is easier on my blood pressure to get the big bills out of the way early.

Some of the big bills are 5-digit checks, such as the deposit on the convention center.

As Kage mentioned, earlier registrations allow us to take care of commitments very promptly.

In addition, dealing with difficulties in Registration is best accomplished at the earliest possible point; June is often a very difficult month for us with the time-crunches involved.

The practical answer is that Anthrocon is best benefited when you register at the earliest point you are certain of attending, excepting calamity. Refunds of your registration are, while performable, a bit of a hassle. We'd rather perfrom as few of those as possible.

If we had enough volunteer hours from last year to get a free registration this year, when will we know we are registered?

You should have gotten an automated email by now. If not, send me an email at anthrocon-2009 AT anthrocon.org with your real name, and I'll check our membership database.

I preregistered for 09 on the last day of AC2008, but haven't heard anything yet. If processing simply hasn't gotten to it yet, that is fine, but just hoping a glitch didn't boot it from the system. Was wondering if I should contact someone about it at some point, or continue to wait. Last year I had my confirmation letter by January. Thanks.
