Fursuit Parade - for our international guests
Hello all!
As many of you are aware, this year Anthrocon's fursuit parade will be held on July 4. For our international guests, that is an American holiday - Independence Day. In honor of this holiday, we will have some fursuiters carrying the American flag at the start of the parade.
But because Anthrocon is truly an international event, we would like to extend an invitation to any fursuiters travelling in from outside the United States to carry the flag of their nation in the parade as well! We have already received a confirmation that fursuiters from Belgium and the United Kingdom are planning to bring their national flags to carry in the parade. We also have a tentative fursuiter from Germany who will also be carrying the German flag.
If you are planning to participate in the fursuit parade, and would like to bring your country's flag to carry in the parade, please let us know! If you are from the United States and would like to bring your state flag, please feel free to do so!
So, if you'll be bringing a flag, please respond here with a way to contact you. That way we can keep track of what nations and states will be represented. This post will be crossposted to the Anthrocon livejournal community.

Hey, I'd love to bring the Delaware flag!
Even if I don't make it to the con, I have lots of friends from this state who can fill in for me. ^^
It'd be fantastic to have someone carrying the flag of the First State. Are there any other fursuiters from Delaware if you can't make it? (Or do you have a fursuiter in mind who could carry it for you should you not be able to make it?)
I'd be happy to put you down as the Delaware rep.
Decisions, decisions... I am (techincally) from PA, but currently LIVE (and go to school) in Iowa, but serve in the National Guard for the state of South Dakota. Which to bring???
Of course, I'd need to get my claws on a flag, anyway....
~Tyrrlin
I could do Illinois... or if you want to add the services I can bring my US Navy flag (see the comment right above this one).
Bringing Navy, since I have one on hand. Would love it if the other services were floating around too =P
For the Canadian flag, you can replace my name (Da-Fox) by "Zets Racoon" because its him who have the canadian flags!
And for the Quebec one, just write Da-Fox instead Da-Fox-"QC" please!
Thanks!
=^.^=
Put me down for the province of Alberta ^^
I'd be up for the Canada flag while wearing my Blooski suit, if not, I could always bring the Nova Scotia flag
An Alberta provincial flag? Of course I do ^^ It's hanging on the wall in my room
Hey KP
I would like to rep for Maryland (along with my son Featherwing) I see there might be a possible rep already for my state, can you have more than one rep per state ?
Sharky
You need a *poke the badger* flag
The big blue husky, Blooski!
Any chance I can carry the South Korean Flag? Even though I am American Citizen and live in america?
If not I'll just go digging through my closet for my Nevada Flag XD
I'm gonna say Kudos to Lucky Coyote for representing us in the Lone Star state! Make us proud!
BTW if anyone could represent Louisiana up there that would be nice, yours truly having lived there for a year or so.

I live in Texas, the home state of George W. Bush. I apologize.
I would like, if I may (and also if I have my fur suit built in time, and am able to get my paws on said flag) bare the United Nations flag?

2 murr fur the MD flag!!! Count me in too!
_rain
I can carry my native country's flag if allowed ( Norway )

It's cute, but we'd really prefer to stick to officially-recognized national and state flags. We do not want people to get carried away (perhaps literally, if it is a windy afternoon).

The Klingon Empire agreed to not fly *their* flags, so it is in the best interests of the Federation to keep the peace and do the same.
I can bring West Virginia, Just let me know what size to get. Also I got by Dante Fox, Any other questions please feel free to note me or contact me over IM.
I have a request. Being that it would be The 4th of July.
I am a Mil-Fur. I was part of the Honor Guard too.
I know how to fold the flag really well.
I was wondering if maybe Me and another suiter can Fold an American Flag at the end of the parade before the Group Photo.
It wouldn't take too long.
Just a thought.

I'm not a Mil-fur, so you can take this as an 'outsider' view. If you're talking about the type of folding where the flag ends up as a triangle with only the blue field and stars showing, that has a connotation of sadness/mourning. We non-mils only see this happen at funerals and other solemn occasions. While it may be used more often (or even all the time) in the military, it has implications for us civilians that don't necessarily go along with the upbeat nature of the fursuit parade.
The above is only a personal opinion, of course. I can't (and don't) claim to speak for anyone but myself.
That is true.
Alot of people...Veterans..Died for this Countries freedom.
This would be appropriate for the fact that it is the 4th of July.
But I guess you are right, It is an upbeat/fun occasion.
I guess the firewroks will suffice that night
(And yes we military fold the flag for other reasons too)
Again it was just a thought
All in all....I'm carrying an American Flag
~V~
Would be proud to have you bring and fold an American Flag.
Just FYI...we may have a very special American flag leading the parade. More to come on that...but if this occurs...we will let everyone know what's going to happen.
Bulky fursuit paws may make it impossible to perform this ritual correctly and with the respect it deserves. I didn't bring it up earlier because I knew it would sound sarcastic. My earlier reason (that it's normally a somber ritual for us civilians) was good enough. I'm certain that the fold can be done bare-handed or with skin-tight gloves: I've seen the Marines do it. I haven't seen it done with relatively awkward things like fursuit gloves.
It could certainly be done if the paws were removed, or if the folders weren't using paws, or even if non-suiters did the folding. I just feel that it might end up being a sloppy job if done in fursuit, and I merely feel that this should be done well or not at all.
YMMV.
I think the folding of the flag might be somewhat depressing though at the same time it gives meaning to what all of US is going through.
Here's a little history about the flag folding ceremony: http://www.ushistory.org/BETSY/more/folds.htm
Hopefully this sheds some light.
I might suggest that with each fold a person tells it's meaning.
The secret is in you.....
Don't worry... K.P is probably too busy with alot of the other planning and i'd just give him time. I'm pretty sure he'll notice all request and include your contact. ^^
The secret is in you.....
Yes...there have been a few other planning things that have popped up, which I'm sure our attendees will be delighted and enthusiatic about.
I will need to post an update with the most recent information about the parade and which flags folks have stated that they can bring (some have stated that due to financial or other reasons, they cannot attend AC this year...so I will remove them from the list as well...is only 1 so far, but still want folks to know if someplace is or is not represented.)
Things are really shaping up nicely already! Should be quite a convention this year...and it's all because of great attendees!

DF has a flag? X3

Do we respond here about carrying a State flag? or E-mail it? And what size?
