One more meal at Hanlon's Cafe!
We received word a few weeks ago that Hanlon's Cafe on Liberty Avenue will be closing up shop. That made quite a few of us sad, since Hanlon's was sort of the go-to place for a nice hearty breakfast. I myself liked to go there in the morning as part of my dedication to the 6-2-1 rule, since the portions they serve are usually enough to carry me through until dinnertime.
Well, I got a note from Bob Hanlon himself saying that he's stretching his lease on the store for one more month., He and his staff are great fans of Anthrocon and wanted the opportunity to keep us fed for one more year. Bob can retire happy knowing that nobody at Anthrocon 2016 went away hungry.
The note came in too late to put it in the dining guide, but rest assured, if you want a good, hearty sit-down meal and don't want to spend a huge pile of cash to get it, just follow the alluring scent of frying bacon and toasting bread to Liberty Ave, and be sure to give Bob and his crew a big hug to thank them for being there for us all these years!
I know my wife and I will be eating breakfast there nearly every day we're in Pittsburgh.
Ah, my favorite place!! I'm glad they'll be open for this year's con, but I'm sad they'll be closing. Their fries are amazing.
That is good news. I thought I'd be out of luck when Brown Bag Deli went away (McDonald's breakfast doesn't count as 'good', in my book, and Penn City Grille is too expensive). After reading this post, and seeing its location, I may have another good breakfast option.
Did you just say the Brown Bag Deli is a McDonalds now?! Say it isn't so!
Oh good! We shall visit every day.
I usually make Hanlon's my daily breakfast stop at the convention! Will be sorry to see it close.
We'll give him a proper final year to remember! I gotta get me some extra bacon and eggs in the mornings in their honor.
I can only imagine it's going to be pretty packed. Will there even be enough seats? D:
I've never been able to eat there; every time I've made the walk, I've been turned away at the door, simply due to room occupancy being full! So it is immensely popular with the AnthroCon Crowd, best plan on showing up early and perhaps be prepared to wait for a while, to be ensured of getting a good meal!
I've got to eat breakfast there at least once or twice this year.
Im so glad im going this year then, I'll be sure to stop by!
Damn, every year it seems I loose one more thing at the AC. Friends who can't make it, old artists or comics going out of business and not showing, familiar places arond the con shutting down, etc.
You need to learn how to look at the upside: making new friends, new artists, new comics appearing, new places coming (well, not that fast, unfortunately)...
Well, I know making new friends is hard, and new artists and comics are not readily seen, etc. Just have to adapt to the ever changing scenery...
I wa just there at 7AM and got the rasin french toast on wensday and was awesome!
