VERY important hotel-reservation notes!
Our hotel room-rates for 2017 have been posted; they are linked from our hotel page, which has very important information that we think you should read.
Three important additional notes:
1) General reservations will begin on FEBRUARY 2, 2017, at 11:00 AM EST. Supersponsors will be sent a link for hotel reservations on January 30; please note, however, that with the growing number of supersponsors, we must out of necessity limit the number of available rooms at our smaller and more in-demand hotels so that there are still plenty available for everyone on the 2nd. And to that end...
2) We have added the Drury Plaza and the Homewood Suites. Both of these are comparatively small hotels, like the Courtyard. We expect these to sell out very quickly. There is nothing we can do to remedy that, save to continue to add hotel rooms to our inventory each year.
3) From VisitPittsburgh Housing Services: "If you know the true names of your roommates when you make your booking, of course you can enter them, and if you have your roommates’ email addresses, enter them in the email field and your roommates will receive a copy of the reservation acknowledgment. If you do not know the true names of your roommates at the time of booking, please do not add fake names or generic names such as Guest #2, Guest #3. You will have the opportunity to add guest names at a later date. It is fine to leave a leave the those fields empty. You may also email housing(at)visitpittsburgh.com with roommate names. They will edit your reservation and send you notification once your roommates have been added to your reservation." This request comes in because in previous years, people have still had "John Doe" and "Guest #1" listed on their reservations even on the day they arrived.
Will the number of names attached to the hotel registration have any bearing on whether requests for a 2 full bed room are honored vs being assigned a 1 king bed room?
Nah. I leave guests totally blank until I check in and it has never influenced weather I got a king or two double bed if I originally reserved for a double bed room. Rooms don't really get assigned until you check in, in most cases, so if you get stuck with a king room when you requested a double, it's because of some other circumstance.
Do we know what time on the 30th Supersponsor emails are going to be sent?
We're shooting for 11:00 AM EST.
So exciting, good luck everyone!
Have you SEEN the decor from the Drury?
Was this in responce to the FC robbery?
THis would be the Bridal Suite, I take it?
Is there a way to request adjacent rooms with others either on reservation or check-in at the Westin?
Adjacent rooms can be requested but don't depend on getting them. It depends on too many factors, like what rooms are available at the time you check in and whether people who got there before you did have already claimed them.
In short, you can ask but the answer is very likely going to be "We're sorry, but we cannot honor that request."
Noticed a little error in the post uncle kage. Down below is what I found.
But for my question what is the time and date for when they close out the supersponcers for pre-registration? The 30th at 11am is when it starts but what is our end date?
"You will have the opportunity to add guest names at a later date. It is fine (to leave a leave the) those fields empty. You may also email "
I don't know where the original post is: it's not in this thread. The two comments have nothing to do with each other as far as I can see.
The answer to Mr. Shadows question is simple. The Supersponsors are given the exact same link to VisitPittsurgh (the people who handle Anthrocon's hotel reservations) as regular attendees are given. They are merely given it three days earlier. So when February 2 rolls around an the hotels open to everyone, a Supersponsor will be competing with everyone else and will no longer have an advantage in getting a room. A Supersponsor cannot wait until February 5 and expect to get a room at the Westin.
If Mr. Shadows was asking "What's the last day I can register as a Supersponsor and still get the early hotel room perk", that's trickier. Registration will probably cut off for the 30th initial notification by noon on the 29th at the latest. Considering the amount of work involved, that's asking quite a lot from volunteers to get last-second registrations added to the email list. If you register after that cutoff but before the general opening for hotels on February 2, they'll probably send you an email within a few hours, after the credit/debit card charge is processed.
Leaving additional roommates blank has nothing to do (specifically) with the Supersponsor perk of early hotel registration.
I either missed that error or it has already been corrected. (Missing it is certainly possible, given my increasing number of senior moments.)
However, it doesn't explain why there's the quote from Mr. Shadows in the middle of it...
Do pardon the mis information that section was the error that I noticed there being extra words placed in there by accident. from what I saw I was just pointing that out so when others read uncle kage messages they won't get confused.
But for the question I was trying to ask was since I'm a supersponcer I was wondering the cut off date and time for when the registration for the hotel rooms is cut off for us before they open it up for everyone else thats all. And my room mate brought a secondary question.
For the link that will be sent out by email will that link have the links to the other hotels or will it only have a specific link for like 1 or 2 of them? Reason for the question is if one hotel gets booked wI'll there be other links for us to move over to the next hotel to book that one instead.
And finally for the limitations for each room to how many personnel can they hold or be at max. Like for safety reasons how many people can someone have per room.
Other then these 3 questions I've been getting filled in by others on previous questions so if these three could be answered then I'd be thankful because these are the only questions I have before I'd be set to start booking.
Since the link sent to the Supersponsors is the same as the one that everyone uses, the "end limit" for early hotel registration is when the link is published for everyone to use on February 2. So you will have roughly half a day on January 30, all day January 31, all day February 1 and up to around 11 on February 2 to register early. After that, you can still register, but you will be competing with everyone else.
All official convention hotels will be available to Supersponsors. The only hotel you may have problems getting a room at would be the Courtyard by Marriott, since it is small and only offers Anthrocon 70 rooms. You will select your hotel and the days you want to stay after you get to the VisitPittsburgh website.
The limit of people in any regular room at Anthrocon is 4, total. In your case that would mean yourself and 3 other people. Supersponsors can only reserve one room each during the early registration period. That is, one Supersponsor per room. You can ask for multiple rooms ONLY after general hotel registration opens to everyone.
Thank you this helps out a bit more to settle things.
I'm registered as a Supersponsor for the 4th year in a row, but as Uncle Kage mentioned, the number of Supersponsors IS growing.
If I do the early registration (WHICH I AM FULLY PLANNING ON), will I be able to get a room at the Westin like I've done the past 3 years? It's kinda my hotel of choice due to a number of factors.
Until Supersponsors exceed the number of available rooms at the Westin (515), there will be no problem. Also, not all Supersponsors WANT the Westin and prefer other hotels like the Omni.
While it is a popular perk for them, not all Supersponsors choose that level just for the early hotel room selection.
That's good! I was so worried that I wasn't going to be able to get the Westin.
The problem is that the Westin doesn't have an unlimited number of certain room types. We do have to cap each room type so that we don't have a situation where there are no rooms available for the general attendees. So far we've not hit that cap, but one never knows when we will.
wait, what FC robbery?
wait, what FC robbery?
Burglary. There was a burglary at the FURther CONfusion Dealers' Den this year.
For the first time, the FC staff were able to gain access to new event space inside the San Jose Convention Hall. Part of this space was used for a large and roomy Dealers' Den, part for an extension of the Den and the Art Show, separated by one of those movable wall thingies. As this was the first time that the con had use of the space, they thought that they had all of the access doors secured, but they must have missed one for the Dealers extension.
It is believed that someone had got into the extension overnight and stole a fursuit head. The FC Con Staff, in (better) coordination with the Convention Hall management, took additional care after that to ensure that there was not a repeat of the incident.
It's not that they missed securing a door, one of the airwalls for the dealer space had a failure which resulted in unexpected access. It was an unfortunate incident but FC did indeed do their utmost to adjust the security situation and kept the dealers in the loop.
Jesus, what happened with the victim? Were they at least compensated?
Apologies if this has been asked, Supersponsor using visitpittsburg for the first time.
When the reservations go up, I want to try for the Courtyard. Is a room taken off the market for me as soon as I get to the reservation page, or am I not in the clear until the whole thing is submitted?
I ask because I've done it both ways. I've done it where once you get to the reservation page, you're in the clear, and you can slow down and take 1-2 minutes to fill everything out.
I've also done it the other way, where nothing is set aside for you until you click "reserve room". My most extreme example is San Diego Comic Con, where you have under 30 seconds to make your entire reservation and click submit - anyone can reserve the last room while you are still on the reservation page.
And since I know I'm going to get responses warning me about how hard the Courtyard is to get... I know. On the above example, I got my first choice hotel at SDCC. I'm no stranger to being fast. I just want to know how Visit Pittsburg works, so I can be prepared. No reason to rush if I don't have to!
It is the former. You should have about 10 minutes to complete your reservation once in the correct selection stage before the room returns to availability, so you don't need to rush filling out the form.
The Courtyard block is rather small compared to the amount of Supersponsors we have, so do not be surprised if even being fast you might not be able to secure a room. Have a backup hotel in mind.
Question about supersponcers e-mails.
What e-mail server and e-mail address that needs to be whitelisted so the link does not get greylist delayed or trap by a spam filter?
Probably Registration (at) Anthrocon.org
Actually registration will not be sending out the link. Uncle Kage sends out the link from a couple different accounts, I believe one of which is the ceo[AT]anthrocon[DOT]org email.
The reason for that is simple: In the unlikely event that anything goes wrong (like the internet crashes), then the blame goes to me, not to the hardworking registration staff who are the ones who actually put this intricate machine in motion.
Anyone else excited??
Is the Westin already sold out???
I'm trying to get my normal room at the Westin and it's not letting me, is it already sold out???
No! We had to place a limit on the number of rooms (particularly doubles) that Supersponsors could reserve ahead of time, since we have more supersponsors than the Westin has available rooms. We communicated this in three separate emails and in two different announcements on this page.
Is the Westin already filled? I can't get it
I can see that it still has kings, but the doubles for the supersponsor block look like they are gone.
Go for a king.
Trust me, Westin is totally worth it!
*sighs* Westin sold out effing quick this year
AH-HA! TRIUMPH! Changed the guest number and snagged a Traditional King room!
Yeah, I had to change the guest to get the room.
I was able to place a reservation for shorter then I wanted to stay at a hotel, can I place a second reservation for the other dates using the link without issue as long as they don't overlap?
I don't think that will work for supersponsors since it'll show up as making two reservations and throw a red flag that could get both invalidated. If the rooms are available other days, you should be able to edit the existing reservation to add them. If they weren't available when you first made the reservation, they won't be for a second reservation either.
Contact and tell them that you would like to extend your reservation. If anyone can help, they can.
Yesss, got the Drury! Who's getting free breakfast, dinner, and drinks every day? This foxie is! So excited! The reviews on the Drury so far are near flawless...I can't wait to see it myself!
So I got my room (supersponcer). And I've already have a concern... we registered our rooms but... we weren't given room numbers or anything to inform us to where in the hotel we will be staying. Like is that how the Westin works? Because if an individual as like myself needs to mail something to my room how am I gonna know where to send my mail if I don't have a room number or anything.
That's the way ALL hotels work, since they can never be certain of what room will be available when it's time for you to check in, As for mailing things to the hotel, usually you can just mail them to the hotel itself and just put a note on the bottom of the envelope saying "Arriving MM/DD/YY" and they'll hold it for you if it gets there before you do.
As a reasonability check, don't send things to the hotel that are expected to arrive more than two or threee days before your expected arrival.
