school furries
Hi everyone! I want to make some furry friends my age so I was wondering, how do you tell if someone in your school is a furry too? I'm in 7th grade and I'm almost positive that there aren't any furries in my grade so how can I tell if someone one in a different grade is a furry without sitting next to them in class or looking at their doodles? I would really like to find some other furries my age! thank you! -Blizzardwulf
i wish i could find some furries in my area too, maybe ill try that! although, as chi already pointed out to me, theres a somewhat small chance. 1371 attended Furry Weekend Atlanta, against 5,376,285 atlanta metropolitan area inhabitants. any other atlanta furries?
ooo i wanna wear one to school! where can i get one?

Yes I as well would like one ^^
.:*Yeah I'm the root of all thats evil but you can call me cookie*:.
-Blizzardwulf that's a really coll idea! now i just have to get a furry t-shirt and it'll br fine. thnx!
just look at it this way ... i didnt help at all, but i found a furry friend by simply drawing alot of furry and he saw it then we became friends i didn't know him till then!
.:*Yeah I'm the root of all thats evil but you can call me cookie*:.
-Blizzardwulf that's cool, but sadly, that won't work for me cause how is an 8th grader suppost to notice my work when I'm on the bottom floor of my school and they're on the top floor? I know all the kids in my classes, and none of them are furries.
keep fauth and furries will come oh yes they will come!
.:*Yeah I'm the root of all thats evil but you can call me cookie*:.
yes, and if they don't come, you make them come.
i attempt to cast the message of furriness far and wide, and hope to assimilate the idea of the interwebbs into an apparently internet-culture-aly devoid community. i mean really, nobody else in my school knows what "over 9000", "all your base are belong to us" or "rickroll" means! some guy over my soldier just asked me if i was texting someone!
Please remember that the more dynamic a culture is, the shorter currency any particular cultural artifact will possess; some things become "old hat" (speaking of cultural artifacts) today, before they have had a chance to propogate - and as the cultural group expands, as new people enter or are assimilated into it, they may lack the point of reference which gives the artifact any context.
...As for me, I have no idea what "over 9000" is supposed to mean or refer to; and as for "Rickroll" - is that some sort of sushi?
It is all too easy to become a bit "SMOFish"; I fall into that trap myself, way too often.
I had to look up both "over 9000" and "SMOF":
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=over+9000
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMOF
And wrt Rickroll: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickrolling
(did you miss Bucktown Tiger when he did it during AC08's Masquerade (or was it Closing Ceremonies)?

...did you miss Bucktown Tiger when he did it during AC08's Masquerade (or was it Closing Ceremonies)?
For AC08, I remember standing in line after the Voice Auction on Sunday evening, waiting to pick up my acquisitions; it was a _very_ long line, but I had hoped to get through in time to catch the closing ceremonies.
...But one of our able and observant security folk happened to see the VOLUNTEER ribbon I was sporting on my badge, and remembered that I had helped the year before with manning a cash box, and as PeterCat's staff had their paws full with doing all the frantic close-out work, I was approached, and politely asked if I might help out again - and this time I manned a cash register and the credit card machine, adding to my marginal skills set, and presumably to my small meagre store of Good Kharma.
The previous year, the very last art acquisitions to be processed and paid for were my own, and AFTER wrapping in bubble wrap and packing them for travel I was the very last person left in the hall, indeed probably the last in the Convention Center itself - and the Closing Ceremonies were long over by then.
For AC08, I tried to finish and get relieved to see the ceremonies, but after processing my own artwork (at least there were still people working in the artshow this time) I staggered into the stage hall with a couple cardboard boxes and canvas totebags with my art acquisitions, just as the staff and board members finished up taking feedback from the attendees - essentially missing Closing Ceremonies _again_, so I didn't see Bucktown Tiger at all, let alone anything he did.
...And that is why I am unfamiliar with "rickrolling". Thank you, by the way, for posting those definition links - as I was not a particular fan of Dragonball Z, either, and did not know the reference.
nevah gonna GIVE YOU up...
nevah gonna LET YOU dooooown...

one of the most annoying songs on the face of the earth, and i have to go and get it stuck in my head. >_<
Here, pry it out with some awesome power metal.
i prefer family force 5. check out my playlist: http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?pi=0&ps=20&sf=&sa=0&sq=&dm=0&p=8633D1BF3B60B513
i doubt power music would help much anyhow. i find heavy metal isnt a crowbar so much as it is a sledgehammer.
and that reminds me, could someone please tell me how to embed the links into the text like that?
and before anyone mentions it, newfags can, in fact, triforce.

Not even werewolf power metal?. Ah well, to each their own.
As for how to do a link like that, you use the URL tags. So the example above looks like as follows in code, except replace the parentheses ( ) with brackets [ ].
(url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A4WoHxL3GQ)werewolf power metal?(/url)
Giza: Yeah, I should. Guess the thought never occurred to me. This isn't something I do often at all.
let's see here... patrick duffy
yes!
thank you.
No problem. :>
Larger T-shirt shops will likely have a selection of wildlife-themed shirts with wolves, lions, etc. Or you can order from an online source such as cafepress.com -- I did a search for "furry t-shirts" there and either they encode the search in the URL, or they have set up a category for it, but anyway the link is http://t-shirts.cafepress.com/furry.
Thank you so much...im buying some soon

Well Im in 6th Grade goin to 7th next yr im lookin for more furries like me
~Spirit~
there are some easy ways of recognizing fellow furs. one, they probabaly have a few animal like mannerisms, such as pawing at the face, or scratching people. dont ask if they are furry. ask and see if they think talking animals are cool. if so, then u may have found urself a fur friend.
If the world was furry, it would be a better place.
I'm in the 9th grade and get my shirts from cafepress as well. also, putting these up around school helps actually. My friend and I have several versions of it. Here it is(sorry for the quality, I just took a pic of the current version I have up on my wall): http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll435/gunnery_major/PIC-0081.jpg
awesome tee dude... i gotta get me one haha
There's furry mailing lists for almost every state. Like if you live in maryland, look up "Maryland furs" on google and find your state's mailing list. Sign up and ask there! Thats a good way to start, at least then you'll know about local furries
Thats how I met my pals!
"We sleep soundly in our beds at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence apoun those which would do us harm."
"Molon Labe!"
hey, if you don't mind i could be your friend. online i mean. i haven't got much who are furries like you or anyone else here.
oh, if your wondering, i'm in the philippines, so good luck finding me if you want.
There are various ways to find other furs in your area/age group, etc. One that's been around awhile is the Intl. Furry Proximity Locator
http://ifpl.cattech.org/
Once you register, free and easy, you can see who's near you (at least those who've taken part so far). Email, birthday, etc. is often provided. You may not necessarily find furs that way, though; the "state mailing list" mentioned above may be a better bet.
(btw I think every year at AC there's a "NE Furs Meet and Greet" but I think this
yr it was up agaist Kage Story Hr or something!)
Some sites like pounced.org are a way to meet others, esp. grouped by species or
age but not necessarily by location--but it's 18+.
Have attended every single Anthrocon
personally, i took a VERY close friend aside and told him about my interest and showed him a couple of webcomics to show that not all of the art is porn.
after that, he accidentally told someone else about my membership (i suppose it might be called that) in the fandom. thankfully, the guy was very open minded and actually thought it was really cool as well. afterwords, I told my friend that if he told anyone else, I'd rip his heart out and eat it in front of him. so far, it has worked swimmingly.
but, i prefer ambiguity. Unless someone asks, I don't really care to tell them about what i do in my spare time, let alone something that is considered "weird".
middleschoolers and highschoolers are cruel, make sure you are very careful.
im 16 =] im in high school
i dont think theres any furries at my school, i live in the country of new york state i wish furries were around where i live
Around where you live? Well, without exact geography, it's hard to say, but you can always take a look...
Im in Gansevoort, 3 hours from the city
anyone know where to find a furry t shirt?
long i have pondered this issue for myself...you can identify trekkies slimply by doing the vulcan salute, you can get otakus by taking a quick peek at their papers(i have this one girl in my class who draws little chibis on all her papers) and if you catch someone scrawling one of these dohickeys(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BDSM_logo.svg) somewhere, chances are they practice BDSM.
but furries? not really. unless you count the burned furs logo, but from what i hear being associated with the burned furs is basicly like walking into the white house and screaming "allah is good!"
i was looking more along the line of a store like an actual store thats not online
Your best bet for a store to purchase a 'furry' T-=shirt at, outside of online, is at a local comic book shop; they are likely to sell some range of Furry comics and may sell T-shirts.
Of course, shirts with animals on them- wolves, horses, foxes, birds, and others- will be much more common and are likely to be available at such mainstream stores as Wal-Mart and Target, as well as other stores in your local area- look around and see what's available.
But for actual furry T-shirts, your best bet is to find them online.

im 12, i can help you out at the con (its my first but trust me, im just as good as an experienced one) top 3 things to remember
1: dont give a shit what people think about you, its mutch easier to live your life (unless its because you dont shower)
2: everyone at the con is your friend, dont be scared to ask someone where something is unless they are in a conversation (still, i recomend talking to a close friend or staff member)
and 3: HAVE FUN, dont get brout down by underage drinking laws! HAVE A GREAT TIME!
: dont give a shit what people think about you, its mutch easier to live your life (unless its because you dont shower)
I would like to make an observation here, that unemployment offices and jails are just chock-full of people who don't bloody care at all what other people think about them; they do as they please, without regard to the social or physical consequences of their actions - and they pay for those actions, sometimes quite dearly, and often without a clue as to why. Certainly, do not act like a sheep, blindly following or agreeing with other folks just for the sake of going along or feeling part of the group - but remember that you have to live AMONGST people, and the impression that you leave them with will have a very deep and long-term impact on just how easy living your life will turn out to be.
Mere Existance is "easy"; Survival is a struggle, and requires lots of effort; real Living is an Artform, which requires constant honing and exercise of social skills, and is attained only after survival has been mastered.
HAVE FUN, dont get brout down by underage drinking laws! HAVE A GREAT TIME!
Jeofox, I'm not quite sure of the message which you are attempting to convey here...but AnthroCon takes a solid and unforgiving stand opposing under-age drinking in any form, at any time - at the convention, in the hotel rooms, or at any event or locale asociated with it. LET US CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THAT, HERE AND NOW.
Perhaps I am misreading that part of your post; perhaps you are just reminding the originator of the thread that he can have fun without having to drink alcohol at our convention (though why you would conclude that the thinks otherwise is a mystery to me). And that is so - many of our drinking-age members do not in fact drink, or at least do not drink at AnthroCon.
If that was your intended message, then thank you for pointing it out.
AnthroCon takes a solid and unforgiving stand opposing under-age drinking in any form, at any time - at the convention, in the hotel rooms, or at any event or locale asociated with it.
Extremely unforgiving.
Darn straight! I would hope it would to, I HATE seeing people chug water and then get tipsy! That, and Kool-aid. Oh the dreaded Kool-aid!
"whoa" wow, just wow, i was joking around about the under age drinking, and when i say dont care about what other people think, i mean dont care if they think your a freak for liking furries. none cares what they think, they dont have to aprove of what you like (unless its raping/molesting/kiling or any other highly despised crime)
HIYA!!!!!!!!!!!! IM A 9TH GRADE FURRY, i know how u feel, my only other furry friend is my girlfriend in upstate NY
all u gotta do is keep an eye out for them, sometimes there hard to find -KuriWolf-

Wear an Anthrocon or other furry t-shirt to school some day?
As luck would have it, my sister is a guidance counselor at a school. I'll check with her and see if she has any advice.
