Anthrocon 2017 DJ Auditions
Hey, everyone! I could apologize a thousand times over for being so late and explain how nuts my life has been, but that's not terribly useful - let's just agree that this won't happen again, shall we?
Audition time is here, which means it's time to fill out a form and then get an email! Thrilling!
This isn't terribly different from previous years: I'm looking for some awesome, reliable folks and some new folks. I'm looking for a wide variety of sounds. Quality of overall live performance is important. Be sure you can match in your live show what you do in your recording, all that.
THAT SAID, THERE IS ONE BIG CHANGE: I am going to give acknowledged, open preference to demos that show off really skilled hip-hop/rap or pop DJs. That's not what the whole dance will be, but fursuit friendly music and an awesome rap DJ are things that have been asked for year over year and I want to make them happen this year. If you play these, and play them well, you've got a way better chance at booking than anyone else and I may find other ways to compensate you as well. If you think this is unfair, sorry. I get lots of house and EDM demos yearly, and while that's awesome music (you know I love my house music) I've had a hard time finding or incentivizing this really in demand stuff to show up. I'd like to change that and make the dances awesome for everyone attending.
I get that it's lame to say "keep it relatively clean" but don't go over the top. Occasional bad words are fine, but don't get me in trouble. C'mon. You can do this.
With no further ado, here's the link:
\o/ Whoo! I had a funny feeling about today. And damn was my timing right!
How long you keeping submissions open? I recall this was about the time last year you closed them so I'm figuring the open window is gonna have to be pushed back a bit.
I'm not sure, honestly. It'll be at least a few weeks. I'm not going to put a stop date - when I get what I need, I have what I need.
Turning out a demo mix should take a couple hours, tops. If we're talking about weeks of planning and execution then it's probably not the right time to apply.
Just determining if using a mix from an upcoming event vs putting a demo together instead would be more appropriate for time limitations. Shumatsucon is a good three weeks away so it'll probably be more expedient to put together a new demo sooner rather than wait for then
Going to see if I can put together a mix or two! If I have two demos / styles I want to showcase (e.g. one Hip-Hop & Breaks, one EDM), could I include both in the same form? If not I'll stick to one
I will only listen to one. I only have so much time.
