I broke my "con virginity" just last year, but I rushed in because I was so pumped about it. Went SuperSponsor and volunteered and everything. I had a blast, really. My nervousness was rid of almost the very first day. I made a lot of friends and acquaintances.
But don't do what I did unless you're really up to it. Feel free to walk around and talk to people. We're friendly.
My badge will be "Justin P. Reese," so if you spot me (I'll be in a suit and tie), feel free to ask me questions. I'm not omniscient, but I can be a general guide if you want.
Also, click the FAQ link on the left side of the screen. Lots of common questions are answered there.

As long as you're 18 when the con starts on the fifth, it doesn't matter! So go ahead and register now!

Exciting. Dizzying. Free. Tiring. Hilarious. Overwhelming. Totally worth it.
When you get several thousand furries and furfans and other such beasties together in one place, stuff happens.
I remember my first year being a little intense at times; i'm not nuts about big crowds where i don't know anyone, so sometimes i felt a little adrift when i wasn't with my friends. Plus i hate cameras with a passion, so i had to keep dodging to avoid being in the background of someone's shot.
Getting involved with the volunteer brigade helped a lot with the former (Nothin' like trading off-color jokes with the art show staff). The latter...well...i'm pretty fast, and as long as i don't wear my wings or stand near the fursuiters, i'm usually pretty safe.
Really, it's a wonderful group. The flirting is rampant (Gender imbalance? Who, us?) but lighthearted, the attenders are very friendly, the art is quite high caliber (especially for an unjuried show) and there's almost always something fun going on. You should definitely go, if you can.

permalinksounds like alot of fun! i hope i can go, im saving up every penny! tho im going on my senior class trip and that'll cost me a bit, besides that i hope i can find someone considerate to room with so cost arent too bad. cuz we all need food and a shower! that and bringing back some furry stuff, like art or tails and whatnot. ^W^

Welcome to the pack-o-newbs! There's certainly not a shortage of us going this coming year. My name's Devin and am one of the new crowd. Only i'm not brave enough yet to bring out my fursona side... and the dance scares me...

permalinkGoing to a convention like this is an experience. AC06 was my first time going to such a convention and I had a great time there. Your first time going will give you the feel for it while the next and future times are more settled. Plus it's great to meet up with friends and meet new friends. I'm really looking forward to AC07. Hope to see you there.

permalinkAC06 was my first con... And I have to admit that I was a little uneasy about the whole thing. All my friends kept telling me that I should choose some other con to go to as my first convention... But I didn't listen and attended AC and had a great time.
Aside from feeling moderately out of place for the first day there, I got my wits about me and really enjoyed wandering around aimlessly (as is my style
) But seriously, AC is an awesome con and well worth the attending.
All in all, it is great.
