DoubleTree - Wifi?
Just looking for a confirmation, saw on DoubleTree's website that they have Wifi. Anyone able to comment on whether or not it's free, "free" (for a certain amount of time during a certain time of the day), or if they charge a fee?
If it helps, I believe me and my cohorts are in one of the suites.
Hopefully it will be and if it isn't maybe it'll be low priced (right now I'm at the Motel 6 nr the airport and they charge $3 but the rest of my stay will be at the DoubleTree. Starting tonight.
btw a list of all the hotels I've stayed at at Anthrocons:
--First yr was at a HoJos 2 mi. from the Con in Albany. I didn't think of staying at Con hotel, or maybe I decided at last minute to go, so...1997.
--Albany Omni (now Crowne Plaza) 1998
--Valley Forge Hilton 1999-2000
--Adam's Mark 2001-2004
--Windham Phil. Center City 2005
--Westin 2006 & 07
--Omni 08 (missed out on Westin)
--Doubletree 09 (missed out on Westin)
Have attended every single Anthrocon
using it now...every day it may ask you to read something and agree to terms then you're fine
Have attended every single Anthrocon
Not only was it free Wifi, but it was certainly FASTER than the Westin's excuse for WiFi.
I was actually disappointed in it - even though it said it was 24 Mb/s, it wouldn't load videos very well, or my favorite comic page
But thanks for the comparison with Westin - I'll have to consider that next when choosing hotels (better Wifi vs a shorter hike to the con center).
For my old PDA it was a breeze. When I used my PDA @ the Westin it was just slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas molaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasses.
The bandwidth was definitely capped at the Westin, as when I switched it to text only mode, it was super fast. Images and videos took forever to load. Of course you have to remember just how many people were accessing it, and figger that it was pretty impressive it didn't just shut down like MFM last year!
I never did get a lock-up on the Westin Wi-fi.

That was the problem at all of the hotels. Their WiFi was intended for businessmen to check their email. They never prepared for 1000 furries all trying to get onto Second Life at the same time.
Yes that is unfortunate.
I saw someone on their laptop, playing SecondLife while hanging on in the zoo.
Playing Secondlife...while at Anthrocon. Dude, you're already on vacation and you can see non-polygonal furries walk by at any given minute, you really REALLY don't need to be on Secondlife while at AC.
-The two saddest words in the English language are "Good bye"
I was fine checking emails and pm's at the Doubletree,
and streaming music while getting ready for sleep, getting up, getting ready for the
next event, etc.
For both activities, the bandwidth was nice and speedy.
A friend once told me that years ago, he walked by the computer bank at AC one evening, only to notice 2 furs about 15 feet apart...on one of the mucks...engaged in yiff...with each other.
He said they weren't looking at each other at all, and he wondered if either one knew that the other was right there and they could quite easily have been doing those things in person.

as far as I can see, it seems to be free wifi. :3
