I heard earlier this year that last year some of the Westin employees were rude to the furs attending the con, making fun of them and even beginning confrontations. Is this true? I don't really want to stay in a hotel where I feel threatened.

I personally worked with Westin employees on pretty much an hourly basis during last year's convention and found everyone to be professional.

Of course, when there's dozens of employees working, who are dealing with a hotel that has 2,000 guests in it, all it takes is one person who is having a bad day to leave a bad impression.

The Westin Hotel is happy to have the furs with us again this year!! I pride myself on the hospitality of this hotel and if anyone is treated like stated above, please get a name of the employee and pass it along to me. We welcome Anthrocon with open arms and I can not wait to see you all again this year!!

What Jaime said!

Last year I had a few people complain to me that someone on the hotel staff had been rude to them. When I asked who it was, they all shrugged and said, "Some guy."

I suspect that there were one or two hotel employees who either got up on the wrong side of the bed one day, or who were surrounded by people all wanting to get served at the same time and didn't have enough hands.

Believe me, if anyone on the hotel staff was mean to one of us, Jaime would get all Tasmanian Devil on his butt.

*smile* Thank you. Yes, ordinarily I ignore them...however, this will be my first con, and I'm feeling a little sensitive on the issue, since this will be my first time as an open furry outside of my home...thank you very much for your kind words.

FYI, it looks like your comment was showing up blank because of the ">" that started it. Apparently Drupal's parser went a little nuts. Sticking out tongue I fixed the ">" so that your post would show up properly.

Thank you everyone for your reassurances. I'll keep in mind the friendly disposition, and try to ignore them should anything happen. It feels good to know that I won't be alone in this.

Of the dozen or so years I have been attending conventions, I must add that the Westin was one of the BEST hotels I have ever stayed at, for me and my family. Many of the peiople there went WELL above and beyond to assist us, and I never heard a rude thing from anyone. Now, there were some feurs that were rude, but that's a different post.

...which brings up the age old advice (well, it's old to me)--always be nice to service people.

In my experience, if i'm friendly to wait staff, hotel staff, etc. and assume, wherever possible, that any conflict is either a mistake or something that they have no control over, i get pretty far. Many such folks have even gone out of their way to help me out because of that.

Someone once told me that at the adams mark, our old hotel of many years, we had a rep for being one of their favorite groups to take care of, since we were so mild-mannered and conscientious. And that was with baptist groups and shriners coming through, so it's not like they were only hosting the meanest of the mean. We haven't been at the Westin/convention ctr. long enough to build up much of any rep, i don't think; but i would love to see us build up the same sweet rep again. *cheerfulsmiles*

That is the coolest thing ever. It's so cool, in fact, that I split it out into its own post.

Tell us another story, Uncle Dorsai!
