Hello, everyone ^^ I'm Isil, a fox/tiger hybrid. Anthrocon 2007 will be my first furry convention. I'll be driving all the way from Los Angeles to get there, carpooling with SEVEN people including myself. I'll be coming with my boyfriend Vince, my best friend Syvian, my girlfriend Kairi, my friend Tyler, my sexay Vaide, and a parent. All of us but the parent and Vaide are minors, and yes, we have our forms signed (believe it or not, my mom's spouse is a notary XD).

I have few questions about policy and all that, since I've read through all the terms and conditions, code of conduct, etc., but I do have a few other legistical questions to clear up.

1. I would like to attend the adult section of the art show. Am I not allowed under any circumstances, or can I go if I have a parent with me? I would really like to attend, and I remember something in the terms that a minor can go if a guardian is present, but I just wanted to clear this up for sure.

2. What are the rules are far as PDA's are concerned at the convention? Will it be considered disorderly conduct if I kiss my BF passionately within the convention center? I'm not talking about having sex in public or anything, but my boyfriend and I do tend to get stuck together like glue.

3. Will a schedule of events be available for the con in the near future?

4. Are there microwaves and stoves within the hotel rooms?

5. What are the best places to eat around the convention center?

6. Are commissions common around Artist's Alley and the dealer hall? I'm addicted, and I'm planning to set aside around $200 just for commissions.

7. Are hybrids "looked down upon"? I've had some weird expiriences on forums with people who think hybrids are weirdos.

8. Is the convention open overnight? If not, until what time?

9. Are there any specific areas designated for just hanging out and having fun?

10. I'm an artist. How often do art trades occur in the Artist's Alley?

Sorry, I know it's a lot ^^; just wanted to get all I could think of out there. There might be more added in the future.

I'll answer your questions by number:

1) How old are you? If you are under 18, then you may not enter the mature section of the art show. It is a matter of state law.

2) From our standards of conduct:

Public displays of affection beyond what is appropriate for polite company are frowned upon. You will be asked to express your devotion to your significant other either in less conspicuous ways, or in private.

3) More like the far future. Sticking out tongue The schedule will come out a few weeks before the con. This is because even now our programming people are busy working out what panels to have and shows to run, which is dependent on who can volunteer and attend the convention this year.

4) No.

5) That depends on your budget! A dining guide of nearby establishments will be included with your registration packet at checkin.

6) I'm not really sure about this one. Any artists/art fans who can answer that?

7) No. It'd be kinda silly for a bunch of fans of anthropomorphic animals to turn around and say, "Well, anthros are okay, but those hybrids are just weird!" Sticking out tongue

Cool The Convention Center closes down at 2:30 AM each night. The convention areas in the Westin are open 24/7.

9) Yes. In the Westin we have The Zoo. In the convention center, well, it's huge. I don't think there will be any shortage of places to hang out. Last year folks tended to congregate outside of Hall C, which held the Dealers Room, Artists Alley, and Art Show.

10) You'd have to ask the artists who were there last year.

Number 2 really cleared it up for me. Sorry, didn't remember that in the Code of Conduct ^^;

Number 1....aw damn, yes XD I guess I'll have to wait another year.

Number 7....I'm glad X3 And yes, it's total irony.

Hoping I get some artists to answer the other questions Smiling Thanks so much, giza, you've been a real help since I got on this forum.

Yes,
The reasoning for the existence of the artists alley is to give a space where artists can congregate and take commissions to be completed either at the con or afterward.
In the dealers room primarily “stuff” is sold rather than commissions. However, if you speak with a dealer who is also an artist they may be willing to take a commission. Typically this works by asking “are you taking commissions?” and the artist will either say “yes” “not at this time” or “no”. In the artists alley if they are taking commissions, they will start taking your information right then and there. In the dealers room typically they will hand you a business card and give you information on how to start a commission with them AFTER the con. don’t take this as a “brush off”, its simply a matter of business that they cant spend their entire day drawing in a sketchbook while trying to make sales. After the con they will have far more free time and can complete your commission to a better quality. If you only wish to commission artists at the con, I would strongly recommend you have a contact and character sheet ready with your name and address on one side (include as much contact info as possible), and a detailed description of your character on the other side (the more detailed the description, the more likely the artist is to create an accurate representation of your character. Just don’t include one of those RP ones “she looks at your with golden eyes from the shadows…” those are not helpful). This way you can hand the artist the form with the info, pay them, and secure your place in line without taking too much of their at-table time.
Expect to pay half up front (I never pay full price up front unless its someone I personally know. Half up front, half on proof of completion). Be patient, many artists will have already taken a few dozen commissions before you get to them, and they might not finish yours until after the con (this is why your contact info is important).

So to simplify all that.
ASK if they are taking commissions
Have a Character description available
Include contact information
Be patient.

If you have any other questions regarding commissions, feel free to ask.
