Forum navigation and heirarchy (and other nitpicks)
Up at the top of this pane or frame or whatever you call this section of the page, is the following:
Home >> Forums >> Forums >> ...
How come suddenly _2_ "Forums" where there had once been one? Is there a material difference, and if so, couls it be differentiated by either a suffix or an adjective?
...And what became of our formatting options - you know, the "quote" and "Bold Text" and "Italic Text", etc?
Finally - under "User Menu", we now have to open "My Account" to be able to access (and conveniently track) those forum topics in which we have made posts; can the old display be restored, so that we do not have to go through the "My Account" page?
PS - What does "Split summary at cursor" mean or do?
Interesting. I'm actually *really* into the new background and theme, and i'm not having trouble with it at all...though i liked the last one, too.
If a lot of folks seem to be having trouble with the new theme, though, i daresay i or the original artist or someone else with a copy of photoshop could probably tinker with some of the colors to ease the situation some. It's not a difficult fix once you have the software and the appropriate files.
Reminds me of the complaints heard when the pages went from color to black and white for last year's web site.
I wondered if i was the only one making that connection. I guess every theme layout is going to have its supporters and its detractors, at least to some extent.
Which is not to say that it's not good that god feels comfortable expressing his concerns; that's how we make sure we can take care of everyone, after all.
I'm not sure what's up with the double breadcrumbs. I suspect it's because I have menu item that links to the main forum page (in years past, it went to a specific forum container).
Formatting still works, you can use BBcode. The problem is that the author of the toolbar module apparently decided not to write a Drupal 6 version of that module, so I could not bring it forward with the upgrade. I have plans to look into checking out some web-based editors, but that's awhile off, too.
I re-expanded the "My Account" menu item.
The split summary button influences how a post looks when it shown in "summary" mode, such as on the front page or in search results. I find it annoying too. I'm going to check into the form defaults module as a way of dealing with it.
Thank you, Giza, for the quick response!
It just appeared to me, at first glance, that the new updated "features" were a step backwards in utility and versatility, but I appreciate what you can change, and I can tolerate the rest.
And while the Granite-textured chocolate background did seem to make it harder to pick out and distinguish the text, it isn't a real bother (for me, anyway). Overall, the general design is a nice one, and the petroglyph/cave paintings opened my mind up to other perspectives for the new theme, which I was otherwise a little leery of.
It seems that for as many folks have commented to me about the background, an equal number have said they like it.
I'm going to look into creating a subtheme that's easier to read. I may even look into creating "large text" sub themes for the visually impaired. More updates as they happen.

A couple of other nitpicks:
The mottled-brown background for posts is a bit distracting, and makes the text harder to read
I'd rather have a plain white background as before.
The pawprint in the tab header in Firefox is harder to see due to the reduced contrast between the tan pawprint and the brown surrounding color
