From the FAQ at http://www.anthrocon.org/faq/hotel :

# What is the minimum age to rent a hotel room?

The minimum age to rent a hotel room is 18. This is because that is the minimum age at which an individual can enter into a legal contract. (such as a rental agreement for a hotel room). The Westin and the Doubletree usually require a minimum age of 21, but for Anthrocon that requirement has been lowered to 18.

At 19 you will be able indeed to rent a hotel room, and register for Anthrocon as an adult. To note, the legal drinking age in the US is 21.

i now know the age limit of the rooms, unfortunately i will not be able to register for a room until a few more years from now. i am 14, and will be 15 in about 3 months, january the ninth. when do the forum for the hotel options open? im going to try to see my options, and see if it is too much to travel to the convention and stay with others from the convention.

Reservations for hotel rooms will open in February of next year. The room-share forum is already open, but given nobody has a room yet, they're fairly inactive.

At your age, if you do not come with your parents, your safest bet is probably to split a room with someone you know(and best of all, someone your parents know) and trust. Just my two cents. Hope this helps! :>

Well, that was a best-case scenario. Rooming by yourself might be expensive, so you might still try and room with a friend you have in furry. Sorry I can't be of more help!

I'm 17 now and will be 18 in May. So that means I can't reserve a room...

Actually, you should be able to reserve a room once they become available. As long as you can show ID that says you are 18 at the convention itself, it'll be fine.

Do keep in mind, however, that many forms of government-issued ID are set to expire on your 18th birthday, so you will need to have it replaced after your birthday in order to have it current and valid.

Also, regardless of age, you'll still need a credit or debit card to reserve a room, in order to pay the deposit.

Just a few heads-up so you have time to prepare! :>

It would also be possible to have a parent or friend reserve you a room, or to room with a friend of yours who can reserve a room.

You can either...

(a) Have someone else reserve the room for you, in which case you will have to either provide cash up front upon check-in or provide a credit-card authorization to use someone else's card (it's a form you fill out and have the other person sign indicating that it is all right to charge the room to that card).

or

(b) Send the hotel a check for the full amount of your stay (room, tax, and a deposit for incidentals). You would make the reservation by phone and then send the check within a certain timeframe.

or

(c) Obtain a credit card, in which case I strongly, strongly urge you to adopt a policy by which you pay off the credit card fully every month, or if that is not possible, that you not make any charges at all on the card while it carries a balance.

Option B seems most plausible in my case. I can get my parents to do that for me hopefully. Well, after I get a job and the money, of course. ^^
