Of course, most NYC'ers going to AC either take Amtrak or Greyhound.
Both leave from mid-Manhattan (Amtrak from Penn Station, Greyhound
from Port Authority), both are cheaper than flying, and both
let off about 2 blocks from the Westin and the convention center.

If you're a student trying to trim your expenses down as far as
possible, however, you're going to skip Amtrak (a much more comfortable
ride) for Greyhound (a lot cheaper.)

A check of buses leaving Wed for the convention and Sun for NYC
shows at least one bus each direction does not require a transfer-
you can get on a bus and stay with that bus (except for rest stops,
bathroom breaks, food breaks) until you reach Pittsburgh.

If the tickets are purchased more than 3 weeks in advance
(and they can be purchased NOW or anytime after NOW),
they should cost around $82 for the round trip.
The tickets can be bought in person, bought online and mailed,
bought online and picked up, or bought online and
printed at home. (If you believe their own website.)

The example I used-which nobody has to take, but would work for me
if I was Greyhounding it, was
Departing: Jun 23, 2010

From: New York, NY
To: Pittsburgh, PA

Miles: 401

Schedule: 1683
At: 04:15pm

Returning: Jun 27, 2010

Schedule: 1679
At: 02:00pm

===============================

Taking Amtrak would cost as little as about $63 each way,
or about $126 for the round-trip.

The example I used-any departure day using the Pennsylvanian
line would have cost the same- was:

Wednesday, June 23, 2010
43 Pennsylvanian (NYP - PGH)

Depart:
10:50 am, Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Arrive:
8:05 pm, Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Duration:
9 hr, 15 min

Amenities

* 1 Adult
$63.00

* 1 Reserved Coach Seat

* Subtotal
$63.00

Sunday, June 27, 2010
44 Pennsylvanian (PGH - NYP)

Depart:
1:20 pm, Sunday, June 27, 2010

Arrive:
11:00 pm, Sunday, June 27, 2010

Duration:
9 hr, 40 min

Amenities

* 1 Adult
$63.00

* 1 Reserved Coach Seat

* Subtotal
$63.00

Terms & Conditions
Total
$126.00

=======================
That's a lot more expensive than Greyhound. However, most of us who take
Amtrak would not trade down to Greyhound-it's more comfortable than a
plane ride or a bus ride.
