I'm in need of a ride for the 2010 AC. I live in Tombstone Arizona, it is 16 miles from Sierra Vista, 72 miles from Tucson, and 188 miles from Phoenix. I don't take up much space. I'm a 5 foot 3, 95lb female Husky. Tombstone has a number of hotels if you have to stop for the night, and Tombstone is Furry Friendly. (they have to be to put up with my stunts) Thank you (in advance) Jessica |
By the time you add up gas sharing and hotel space (33 hours doesn't really seem doable in anything less than 2 1/2 days), the flight is probably cheaper anyway.
Thanks all for the help. My husband didnt want me flying but I'll try to talk him into it again.
Remind him of the odds:
Catching a ball in a major league game: 1 in 560
Getting a hole in one in golf: 1 in 5000
Dying in a car accident: 1 in 18,600
Striking it rich on Antiques Road Show: 1 in 60,000
Dying in a plane crash: 1 in 354,000
Being struck by lightning: 1 in 576,000
If you've never caught a ball at a big league game, never gotten a hole in one, never died in a car accident, and never struck it rich on Antiques Road Show, there's little to fear from flying.
If you're been struck by lightning, though, I'd reconsider.

Umm...perhaps you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the seasonal monsoonal storms which come over the Sonoran Desert - which is where Tombstone happens to be - but let's just say that there's lightning...and then, there's LIGHTNING!!!

Nevertheless, I concur with your overall assessment and recommendation - flying is the the most practical and least problematic way to get to Pittsburgh, from either Phoenix or Tucson.
Mitch Beiro drove his pickup truck from Tucson 2 years ago - with Karno riding in the open bed - but I don't think he will repeat that exercise, nor recommend it to anyone else. Violent late-spring and early summer weather can result in flooding through the Mississippi watershed, and he had to make detours of a couple hundred miles to find open bridges across a few rivers.
Hi. My mate lives in Houston, TX, and I in Philadelphia, PA. It would take about 3 or so days for me to get to him via bus, so I've flown every time I've visited him. It really isn't as bad as people make it seem. It's much faster, in a temperature-controlled environment, and on most flights, there's at least a little snack bar.

I don't mean to discourage your search for a ride, but Tombstones to Pittsburgh is a drive of 2,069 miles and 33 hours, according to Google Maps. Very few people drive from that distance, if any.
You'd do well to consider flights from Tuscon, or perhaps Phoenix; a quick look at Travelocity lists flights for $330 after taxes and fees for a round-trip flight from Tuscon to Pittsburgh on Anthrocon's dates, and from Phoenix for $314 after taxes and fees.
