Anthrocon 2010 DJ List
From Simbalion:
Hey there furries! It's been a heck of a year, we've recieved a lot of auditions like each year, and it's always difficult to determine who gets time slots on the stage at Anthrocon. But the time has come and the selections have been made. Without further ado:
Main Ballroom DJs:
Rory, Alphawolf, Rukkus, Tekfox, Croc, Protocollie, Pawz, Dragonboy, Big Blue Fox, Banshee, IronheartFursuit DJs:
Antimon, Rory, Yappyfox
YAY Protocollie!!!
you just made my day
Congrats to those that made it, the line up certainly looks to be full of win. Not to mention it's a line up of DJ's that bring a nice variety. From BBF with trance and European bouncy goodness, to Tekfox's dubstep which makes my ears go "Yay, this sounds good!" while making my body go "How the heck do I move to this?" (That's certainly no complaint to Tekfox, for me dancing to dubstep is tricky but fun.)
Oh yes, as for Protocollie. I hope the tetris god's don't pull a "Reverse Squiggly, Line Piece, LINE PIECE!!!" on your equipment this year.
I'm going to stay away from all forms of music that involve stacking blocks, just to be safe.
Good idea, though you had a nice set last year even with the crashes.
But anyways since it's now 100% confirmed I will be able to go to AC this year...(Truly a first for me, flying way out of state for a consecituve Summer Vacation.) I'm looking forward to your set this year. ^_^
Well, thanks!
Congrats dudes!
Just a question as I have never been to AC or any furry con before but will be going this year. Is there a rundown of what styles each DJ plays or whatnot and a schedule for when who is playing. I ask as I am very picky when it comes to music I can actually rave to so would like to be able to schedule my times on the floor accordingly.
There could be! I'll check into that for you.
What styles of mewsic do you like?
Happy Hardcore, Speedcore, gabber, Goa-Psy Trance, Vocal Trance, and most general Eurodance music.
Thanks a lot Giza! ^^
Vocal trance maybe, but I'm pretty sure there's no happy hardcore/speedcore/gabber and i'm positive there's no psytrance. Probably some eurodance. Generally I think we're looking at dubstep, drum and bass, breaks, electro house, tech house, prog house and european techno, which is what we normally have.
could we get a list broken down by medium?
Rather, which ones use CD's, which one use vinyl, and which is mp3?
Does it really matter that much? I only ask this because I've never met a (good) DJ whose skill was limited by their media.
It kinda does. Hooking up an ipod shuffle to a speaker outlet really isn't the best way to "dj"
Usually, and not always the case but a lot of times, vinyl dj's are a little more skilled and hands on at making new tracks in real time. CD dj's are the about the same, but usually have better eye candy, and mostly timed to the tracks dropped. Mp3 dj's a lot of times have a tendency to either put up a single laptop and let itunes work on shuffle..... Though if they have the right equipment, the dual mixer boards for instance, mp3's can be very interesting. However, nothing gives direct control of skill like something that you actually have your hands on (such as the mixer boards, the cd mixers, or the vinyl turn tables.)
Also, my experience with anthrocon dj's that use mp3's usually get a lot of their music from itunes, youtube, or flash animations like "reanimator" or anime music....
Tossing a computer on "shuffle" isn't real DJing. It's school-dance DJing. I'm an MP3 DJ, but I actually have live mixing skill. I can't afford a full vinyl emulation set, but I know how to use one (and make do with a mixing board).
ED: Also, I try to avoid anime or iTunes music. It's both poor quality and just not what I like (psytrance).
and that's where the magic happens ^.^ i'm generally not one for trance, but if i hear reanimator one more time i'm gonna bleed out my ears lmao.
all joking aside, i only wanted the list so i can time the various styles and what time i want to dance according to my personal tastes and subjective opinions ^.^
i think this is perhaps an unfair assessment
I concur
I, too, concur.
Of?
ED: I think it's just a little ambiguous, as he's passing two judgments in this post.
That's not entirely true. I'm a PC-DJ...or "MP3'er" and I find I can do all the same techniques thru use of my midi controller. Heck even thru just the touch pad on my lappy.
Laptop dj's shouldn't be under estimated. I rocked a pretty heavy room party for the Condition Furry Con; this last MFF.
It's all in the software and the dj's proficiency in using it.

if ya can, ya can, though there are those that can't
a rock is a rock unless it's not.
I have to ask...is the question related to specific issues you've had with the quality of past anthrocon DJs, or is this more of a generalized concern?
If it's related to a specific concern, it might be nice to have a better sense of what that concern was; it's hard to fix a potential problem if we don't know about it.
And to catch a flavor of the work of this year's DJs, have you tried googling them? Many of the DJs we've had over the years have had websites up with examples of their work, including long-form mixes. They've often also had youtube videos up, where you can get a sense of their work live. Those things won't tell you whether they mix from mp3 or vinyl or cd, but i would imagine that if you can't tell which one was used, it probably won't matter on the dance floor. And off the top of my head, i can't remember any occasion when we've had a DJ who didn't mix live (though i've never paid much attention to the media they used).
Given his track record with us, if i were a newcomer i'd be pretty inclined to trust simba to put together a solid lineup for us. Just me.
More specifics about each DJ will be anounced in the time running up to the convention.
It's really not fair to make such a statement about the source of music used by DJs in previous years.. You're painting a very wide stroke and I know that many of the DJs who have played the main stage at Anthrocon use very high quality MP3s.
It should be safe to have faith that the concerns you have are shared by the people putting on the event, as we've been doing it for years now, and know that we go out of our way to ensure the highest quality production possible.
yeah i'm curious as to why it matters, too.
Props to my friends, sadface for me.

I would have been sad if Yappyfox, didn't get a slot.
And congratulation to all the people who got a slot
