AAAH somethings wrong!!! (not really but videogamers willl be shocked!)
Ok, something weird is happening.
Back story: before i became a furry, i was completely obsessed with videogames for the past 5 years. i became a furry and now i lost my will to play videogames with the passion i once had WHAT IS HAPPENING!? Somethings not right :S
you know what? your absolutely right...hmm, now what do i do? videogames are fun, but not near as much as being a furry. I dont know... this is really weird
Leo, don't worry about the change. Like Martha Stewert said after she got out of jail, 'It's a good thing!' Your mindset just refocused on something that appeals to you. Its the same for a lot of people: they focus on one thing for a long time and only that thing, then suddenly switch gears onto something else! I say, delve as deeply into the fandom as you please! Themore you indulge, the happier you'll probably feel.
Thanks guys for the insight. Hmm...come to think of it, before i became a furry, i felt an empty satifaction playing videogames all those years, (pointless honestly to play these games i've realized) but with this fandom, i feel "whole" does that make sense?
It can make sense. We are designed by evolution to be parts of pairs (at least) if not larger groups like packs/families/neighborhoods/towns/cities/states/countries. The vast majority of people need and require groups where we feel at home. Very few of us are 'lone wolves,' that is, solitary creatures. Videogames are, essentially, a solitary activity. You're competing against the game designer or the other gamers. There's often very little 'human interaction' in the game.
Furry fandom can be a group you fit into.
Gamers, please note: none of this is intended to say gaming is 'wrong.' It isn't. I'm only trying to say that some actions are individual/solitary, such as reading a book or reacting to music... or gaming. Other activities are group activities, like going to a baseball or football game... or a con. There's nothing particularly right or wrong on either side, they just are.
I used to enjoy playing Call Of Duty games and FPS's in general a lot more than I do now. Nowadays I try to play different types of board games, I find them more engaging than most of the mindless killing games out there today. Of course I still like COD4, that game is pretty good.
Though some furries have found the fandom and lost their gaming will, there are quite a few who still play FPS' and the like. Wasn't really the fandom that weened me off of my gaming addiction, it was my PS2 memory bank frying, losing a joint time of 8 years of gaming (or 16gb) in one day. But hey, the fandom keeps you entertained better than any video-game.
I stopped being good at video games after high school. Besides, games these days are just like movies. They take the old and try to make it new again. You aren't missing anything you havn't played before. :/
Interests tend to ebb and flow my friend. I have been much more in reading moods lately than videogaming moods. I am an avid gamer and have been since well, a long time ago with my Atari 2600. I mostly nowadays game when I have nothing better to do. It's all good, and not cause for alarm. Everything is eventual.
Same thing happened to me... The only video game I play now is World of Warcraft. Sometimes I do crave another game but it doesn't last long. I haven't turned on my xbox in a looooong time!
i have a shiny PS3 that's collecting dust right now unless my parents are watching blu-rays. (but that's mostly because i lost the component cable and the only HDMI-compatible screen in the house is in the living room...) still into dungeon-crawlers and i kinda bounce between MMOS, currently on a champions online kick. It's pretty fun, but WoW has had more time to perfect their formula i suppose because i'm getting kinda bored with champions at the moment and might get my friend a prepay card for WoW soon to get him back and use a scroll of resurrection to get me a free month, which will be like i got him a free month with the scroll.
but anyways, it's not unheard of to stop or at the very least slow down your gaming as you age. part of growing up is engaging in multiple hobbies (i believe that's the right word)
not sure, that seems odd, im still playing games with a passion :], maybe its because alot of modern games coming out recently arent that interesting.
I suppose you have a point there. Modern games really embrace the common American attitude of " Gimme my treats now and you better not make me work for it!!!", (this coming from a native-born Texan) meaning games are too easy and/or short. The only game I haven't been able to beat in only 1-4 sittings recently is FF13 and that's also partially because I haven't had much time to play. But I still intend to spend PLENTY of time with SCII. Hopefully the game will have a lengthy campaign to keep me busy. But I have my doubts...
I'm a gamerfur! I'm still heavily into video games, especially the classics. Though I have a soft spot for sandbox games, like The Sims and GTA, and MMOs. The MMOs that are currently in my interest are:
WoW
PWI
DF.
Another one, Ekaiyo Online, would have been on the list, but it's not for two reasons.
1. It's still in development (hell)
2. I got banned from the project because the community hates me for no reason.
But hey, there's furry games out there! You can still be a furry gamer!
Torry did you tell them you would kill to do that project by chance?
Oh ha ha. No, I didn't.
Earth Eternal is probably the Furriest game out there right now.
I am in the same boat Leo. I was a hardcore gamer in a Mechwarrior 4 league for about eight years.
Last few years my gaming interests have been declining. I just thought it was because the new games are lacking the things that make games worth playing. Like fun. Plus most of the younger players can not comprehend the word "Sportsmanship" Anyhow the gaming is bad enough that I started to study my 3D tuts again. "How sad is that"
I've been a furry the past few years and now I'm building custom computers and still playing everything I did back then. I even rent games from GameFly.com. Always was a heavy gamer and don't plan to let up soon. If you want to get back into gaming you just need to find something that grabs your interest. There was a point where I was going to give up on it, but it takes something worth while to get you back into it. If anything it's just a phase.
Same thing happened to me. Now, the only games I play are ones with good plots. Final Fantasy games especially. They're like playing/living a book.
Final Fantasy has its ups and downs, but yeah, they are very fun games. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a good one since X-2 :( Everything else has been either MMO or overly simplistic.
video games are just a way of passing time. it's kind of silly to think of them as anything more than that. when you find something else to occupy your time (like being a furry) then you probably won't find as much satisfaction in playing them.
also, if you play them too much, it starts to affect your life. they can detract from grades, your social life, and it can even start to affect the mind.
bottom line, if you don't feel the need to play them anymore, then you don't have to. and you want, you can sell them and make a little $.
edit: crap...didnt see time stamp... >.<
I played Mechwarrior 4 in a league for about 6 years, till I got burnt out. A UK guy posted in a rant one time on how he gave up a girl friend, and a good job to play the game. That was really sad.
That's kinda what happened to be a while back. I began losing interest in video games, even loaned out my XBox to my brother for three months and didn't miss it. I'm back to playing now, however, partially because there are some good games to play, but more importantly, that I've found a group of friends to play them with.
There are a couple of threads here where groups of gamer furs congregate; perhaps forging some new friendships might rekindle your desire.
I miss my friends for sure. One lives in Texas, two live in WI, two in Washington, and my real good friend lives in Queenland Brisbane Austrila.
He did not get flooded BWT. So I miss my friends more than the game.
Hoping crysis 2 will be as good as the first.
If you have an Xbox you can try the demo.

It may also be known as 'growing up.' As the scientist said in War Games, you don't play Tic-Tac-Toe anymore...
