the hotels (omni)
is the omni hotel eny good? or is it trashh? im not looking for five stars i just dont want to sleep with cockroches
I've stayed at the Omni before, during the first AC in Pittsburgh. It is a very, very nice hotel. The staff was nice, the hotel and rooms were very clean, and everything was pretty upscale. It is in fact currently classified as a 4.5 star hotel.
I have to admit, it was almost too fancy, and I felt a tad under-dressed while there haha.
Wow, really? That's... SO COOL! x3
I thought it was gonna be a 3-star or something. It'll be awesome walking around with a bunch of suiters and stuff.
As it happens, there was another thread on the subject of the venerable Omni William Penn. Rather than repeat what has already been written, I refer you thus:

While it is certainly not "trashy", and the staff are friendly and accomodating, please remember that this is Pittsburgh's premium "social event" hotel and event space. It's where the President stays when he is in town - in short, it is a "classy" joint, whose management wishes to keep that reputation; and the guests - Furry Fans or otherwise - are expected to behave like a Class Act. Other guests who are NOT Furry Fans will be there, as well; and it is an excellent opportunity to be Ambassadors of Furry, and to make a good and favorable impression on folks.
...Especially since we follow in the wake of the somewhat stuck-up and rather chinzy MENSAns, who stayed there last year. I've made inquiries, and it seems that the Furry Fans who have stayed at the Omni the two previous years, left a much more favorable impression for politeness and generosity (translation: tips) than the "Genius Club" did, and as I myself enjoy the service that they provide me, I wish to make sure that they keep that impression, for as long as we can carry it off.
if i go this year i will stay at the Omni because the westin is filled already. hopefully it wont rain so people staying there dont get wet walking to the con. if i go i will talk so some of you so i have some clue who you are
The DOUBLETREE, being several blocks away, runs a shuttle bus.
IIRC, the Omni is about 3 blocks from the Westin. Except for
those AC'ers unable to walk more than a few steps, it's not
cost-effective to even WAIT for a shuttle bus.
(It wasn't worth it for me to wait for one at the DOUBLETREE-
I just walked.)
That having been said, perhaps the Omni DOES have a shuttle,
I don't know either way.
I was in Pittsburgh this past weekend. I walked from the Doubletree to the Westin, in the snow and dragging a huge heavy suitcase. It took me a little over 4 minutes to make the trip.
4:52 by my stopwatch, to officially note. We weren't really moving fast, and we did wait at a few lights. It should be between 4-6 minutes for our average patron.
Even if it takes a full six minutes, that's shorter than the elevator wait sometimes at the Westin.
...And the Omni is even closer - well, actually as a crow flies, they are about the same distance, but if you are walking, the path from the Omni William Penn to the Westin and the convention center is less tortuous; you just exit the lobby, face right, and walk 2 blocks down William Penn Place,`crossing 3 streets - and you are there! You can even see the Westin from in front of the Omni!
Goodness - is that Petercat walking in the grey jacket? How many of you made this trek from the DoubleTree to the Westin, anyway?
********
And our Chairman - when he's dressed like that...I dunno - he somehow looks...out-of-place. There ought to be a rather large and powerful late '30s Daimler motorcar, in black or grey, following right behind.
He also looks incomplete, like he's missing something.
...Like a pitchfork - or a scythe.
I do notice how the snow seems to melt before his advance, however...
There were a total of six board members and our Logistics Lead who made the journey. We all had lunch at the Doubletree, you see; and that's where I parked my car.
Would that we had a 30's Daimler available. Kage, Giza, Talyn, and myself made the journey into Pittsburgh in a 1999 Ford Escort with 164K miles on it.
There's a picture somewhere with him in front of some flames wearing that hat;
a clip of "O Fortuna" would go nicely with it
It would take me about 1 minute by running down there from the Omni even with my suitcases with my fursuits in
I have very big stamina. Very fit and quick lol
That calls the "foxrun";-) I will count you time...lol and if you don't make it you can offer me a beer or two;-)

This is the same hotel I'm spending my time registering for tonight. You can actually see pictures of the rooms on their website, or ask the staff (with bias of course) I've never been there myself just so you know. For me it isn't such a bother, I have very high doubts that a hotel like the Omni in the middle of the city would do very well if people were sleeping with the cockroaches. ("KAGE!! GET THE HECK OUT OF MY BED!! *kicks*"]
